Ally Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 its my birtday soon and i will hopefully get enough money for my new kite but im not sure what to get. im 7 stone and want something that would be good for mountain boarding when i (hopefully) get one and jumping. i am thinking about the 4mblade. is this a good idea or is there something better? also is 4m the right size or is it to big for someone my size? all advice gratefully recieved. thanks Quote
littletitch00 Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 im no expert, but for, the advice ive been given, and bearing in mind i am the same weight as u, i would go for a pkd uster or firebee (either 3 or 4m) it will b better for a beginner and save u a lot of money, letting u get a mountain board, or save some money for if u want a bigger kite after a while etc. im sure one of teh people who really know what they're talking about can reply better than me, but just passing on what ive been told Quote
Ally Posted April 26, 2003 Author Report Posted April 26, 2003 anyone else? not saying what you said is wrong littletitch00 but i want to get an idea of what more people think. its not everyday i get a new kite so i want to be sure i get the right one. what are bees and busters like for boarding? do they give much lift? psychotic_eddy Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 4m Blade sounds good for the board and jumping unless you are a fatty in which case maybe the 4.9m whichever you get if you have little or no experience start in v.light winds and work up from there. oops I see you are 7 stone 4m will be plenty. My 4.9 can seriously kick my butt and i am nearly 15stone. Start off in light winds with the 4m they are still a seriously powerful kite. The other possibility is a 3.5 or 4.5m bullett not so good for jumping but excellent on a board. Quote
freez Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 i cant comment on the pkd buster, but the firebee is a good kite for the money, and if fitted with power rings it can do anything a blade can (nearly), and at half the price as to your weight ,i would advise a 3m kite as it will be your first one. my mate is 13st and regularly gets lifted up 3-6ft with his 3m firebee in a moderate wind the firebee isnt your only option, there are the busters, eolo radsails and symphonys in the same price range. oh and dont forget to learn to fly in a light wind Quote
Ally Posted April 26, 2003 Author Report Posted April 26, 2003 i dont want anything to similar in pwer to a 2.5 bullet as this is what i am flying most of the time. just to make things more complicated. sorry:( Quote
freez Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 as you can already fly then go for the 4m blade, canna go wrong with that Quote
buggy munky Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 I would say a 4m blade would be good for you to have and will give you that bit extra power .Best think to do is see if you can try it first and see how you feel with it most shops will help and let you try them first . Quote
Ally Posted April 26, 2003 Author Report Posted April 26, 2003 your help is much appreciated:) the flexi dealers in orkney havent heard bak from flexi yet and thats after at least 5 weeks so im not sure when their stock will be arriving but they say they will be running demo days so ill go along. thanks again Quote
bushflyer Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 save the cash and take the advice. a buster is fine for boarding or for more grunt get a bee and get it set up properly. if you buy a blade now you'll have a kite, great, but no money for boards etc. are you the patient type who'll take time to master his kite while saving up for the board or will you be kicking yourself after 2 weeks when you get bored of scudding or jumping? blades are nice but other kites work on a board well too. blades can also be quite viscious during unexpected powering up moments while you're still a grom. i know this is the flexi site and blades are very popular but there are other kites good for the job! try a couple, then decide. its your money after all.
