Guest DanishDude Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 To me landboarding seems both dull and dangerous, compared to every other kite-traction-activity. Do I have a point, or what am I missing here? Quote

Dull and dangerous dont go together, whats dull about cruising along at 20mph on a skateboard with a big blade then swinging it up to get a huge air. Dangerous definitely, dull no way. Matt Quote
Guest DanishDude Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Naaa.. I saw that just when I wrote it Dull and Dangerous dont mix But I mean; Isnt it a bit.. say akward - U know.. Dont u have to be really good before getting any real action, and then u dont get it anyways when u get to look at someone who is as good, but in a buggy? Quote
matt21 Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 It's not easy, I only got mine at the weekend so can't do much at all but I used to skate when I was younger so have an idea how to balance on the board. I can't wait to get a bit better though, once I can master upwind i'll be much happier! It's easier than kitesurf though and good practice to help you get into kite surfing, which I really am trying to get started in. Matt Quote
Guest DanishDude Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Ohoo - I c! Good input, thanx and have fun Prefer buggy though Quote
MadAndy71 Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 IMHO, If you want speed, go for a buggy. I also think that a board could be more fun but it takes a lot more input than buggying before you start seeing the benifits. Quote
Adrena1in Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Before I started with kiting I thought buggying looked awkward and uncomfortable, so I rekconed I'd mountainboard, as I want to try kitesurfing this year, so I figured mountainboarding would be the same. I've snowboarding a few times, so can balance, but I found mountainboarding very tricky as a beginner. Buggying, however, once I gave it a try, is a lot easier to start with, so I quickly got hooked on that. But I kept my board and I've had a couple of runs on it...I think it'll just take a lot longer to learn, but be more rewarding in the long run. I'm not a speed demon, so apart from a few spins and stuff there isn't really much I want to achieve in a buggy. On a board though, I'd quite like to be able to learn some air tricks. Quote
Tone Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 got mine last thrursday, got some good runs by saturday and was getting little jumps by monday. it never used to apeal to me, but i tried it and i can safly say i am so happy with it! great fun flying round a field all day doing little jumps here and there. dont knock it till you have tried it tone Quote
Guest DanishDude Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Do u Landboarders use Harness? Quote
Bob Monkhouse Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 Yesh, I am using the harness for cruising but am preferring to unhook for the jumping. Bob. Quote
Tone Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 i dont use the harness much when just riding... too scared to at the moment. Tone Quote
littletitch00 Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 dont know much bout mountain boarding with a kite, but downhill rules!!! so any of u lot with a board but no wind one day, find ur self a nice hill and find out for yourself!!! (padding is a very very very very very good idea!!!) Quote
savage Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Originally posted by DanishDude To me landboarding seems both dull and dangerous, compared to every other kite-traction-activity. Guffaw, guffaw. Maybe you haven't seen any proper mountain boarding. http://www.kiteatb.co.uk has a few pictures worth looking at. Suppose it's dangerous though. Quote
The Flyin Scotsman Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Only dangerous if you: a) Go Fast b) Go High c) Fall Off d) Run Into Anyone e)Realise How Fast Your Going and Faint So yeh, it is quite dangerous, but the risk of danger is fun. Buggying can be good as well, but its a more relaxed sport rather than the explosive movements some pro-kiteatber's can do. Quote
Kiteboyza Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 I prefer mountainboards, not dull, dangerous as you make it for yourself. I huse bar and harness on all my kites and nothing beats the feeling of locking the kite in the window and laying back with now hands on the bar. Its less gear to carry, no need for racks and huge toolbags, its cheaper than a buggy and the speed, well as quick as you wanna go mate. Im not slagging buggies cuase i have the occasional ride in them but boarding is for me. Maybe its because i kitesurf and the feel of it is the same as on water just harder when you hit the beach. Try and blag a go on one and i gaurentee youd be hooked ........ Quote
Paul Smith Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 From a die-hard buggier all i can say is give it a go. I've not long started but reckon its better than buggying (well almost..........ish). Paul Quote
psychotic_eddy Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 as you are further from the ground on a board it does not seem as fast as a buggy. TIP :-- Until you are ready do not take a gps with you on a board, I nearly died of fright .... and that was after the run and got the gps out of pocket. Thank god i did not fall off on that run.
