depends on the wind. If theres none, a 12m storm wouldnt get you up. if its 50mph, you'd prob want a smaller one!!! depends on weight. for an average rider, 12m storm prob need 20mph?? use my 17.5 arx up to bout 18-20, thats pushing it though. havent found the limit of the x2 yet!!! need to get it out in a 25-35, think that would do it!! I have managed to surf with my 3.3 blade once. need some serious wind for that though!

If you have no previous experience of kitesurfing then you'll find it really hard especially if you're in bindings as you need to have good edging technique to stay upwind.

Wakeboards don't have much volume and so tend to sink with any temporary lull in the wind so you'll need good kiting skills to "pump/work" the kite in these conditions to keep planing.

So the answer, in brief, is YES it's possible, but you'll spend more time learning to get going than someone with a 170'ish Twin Tip which has more volume and footstraps not bindings.

Once you've mastered kiting and edging then there's no reason not to give it a go on a wakeboard ( I use a 134 O'Brian when it's really windy) but for learning you really don't want to be "booted-up" as this gives no possibility of kicking the board away from yourself when wipeouts occur.

Happy kiting.

For learning you really couldn't go wrong buying a second hand Litewave 169 TT.

These boards are bomb-proof ( always necessary when learning for all those nasty wipe-outs and when walking up- wind when the board will flip upside down and hit the nose and tail on the sea-bed making for expensive dings) user friendly and have fantastic re-sale value.

The 2003 designs are currently in production which sport more dynamic graphics and a completely new outline (not that it'll make any difference to the majority of sailors!)

I would therefore expect 2003 boards to be picked up at around the £300-350 area.

Good luck and best wishes for a windy 2003.
