JKS Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 Nigel . can ya stick up a link showing the location of the lake ? Quote
nigel Posted February 15, 2008 Author Report Posted February 15, 2008 I just googled it, here's the wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Gairdner That should help you locate it. Plot the GPS position (in the above link) into your GPS and see how far away it is!! Quote

sinbad Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 Nigel fancy getting a twin share if Dukey is taking the family, or we could get the family room between us. Quote
The Duke Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Family coming over for the festival Sinbad, but I will be on my own for the Gairdner trip Situation so far is........... Made contact with the Environment and herritage people, and all looks good from them, but would ya believe it, the Aboriginals have declared the entire lake a sacred site, so we have to get their permission first. My internet went down for a week, (some lousy plumber up the road dug up the phone lines and buried them again without telling anyone, knocking out half the block for the week) so Nigel sent an email to the appropriate SA senator to find out who we have to convince to let us on the lake. We will keep you informed as to our progress as we get the results, as I realise this trip brings with it the need to apply in advance for time off work. But If you already have your hollidays booked, like I do, and the lake access is denied, we will definately have a backup venue planned Quote
sinbad Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Sounds sweet to me, I love adventure have booked Hols already till the following weekend. My kids will be at the festival as well there looking forward to it. By the way lower light is now closed, the council closed the road because to many dumped cars out there. Port gawler is the next closes place. for a day trip before the festival thats were the land yachts race, but there away for easter at lake gilles near gairdner. Quote

the Truth Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 hi guys, Hey isn't the water level 2 high for running there? Thought they had cancelled the speed week because of that, same problem as last year or am i getting confused? It is a fast surface if dry n hard but may suck wet and windless - Lake Gilles (just before it) it is ment to be faster, don't now condition but is a gypsym surface and no facilities. luv istt Quote
nigel Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 The DLRA folks have suspended the March run, there is a chance that the Lake will be dry for April, so they might be looking at doing this. The surface is only soft for the first 150 metres at the edge. After this it's fine. This report came from the Parks people, in the first week in Feb. The DLRA cars were told not to go on as there was no way of not leaving ruts in the surface to get to the harder stuff. As long as there has been no rain at the Lake, we should have no problems with the surface, infact it might be hard by the time we get there (end of March). The waiting game is now on for access to the lake, no permission, no use of the lake. Just waiting to hear back from the offical people. So get your high speed wheels ready Quote
The Duke Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Well the official word from the beurocrats is at present that the situation is too sensitive to allow access to the lake for our purposes. In other words that we can all understand...... NO ACCESS ........ We will keep on their backs about it for future events at this venue, but at this stage access to the lake has not been granted. We will however be going on a buggy trip after the festival, we just don't know where yet.... any suggestions welcome.
