amphibianalf Posted September 30, 2014 Report Posted September 30, 2014 hi guys... im just getting past the stage you describe ...just getting up and then sinking .... I struggled for ages and even posted on here about what I'm doing wrong ..I returned to the sport after a few years and started again.... I'm a short arse and 15st 4lb I use a 144x44 board and then I bought a 140x40 just coz it was going cheap and I could get going better on that ... I did listen to everyone's advice and it was good advice and did help, I even went for a 1'2'1 lesson to help ... what I learnt from the lesson wasn't anything to do with getting on the board, it was about learning about the kite I was flying (kahoona v4) I was being too gentle with it and not diving it aggressively enough ... and trying to park it expecting it to have enough power from an half arsed dive ... he got me body dragging and really flying the kite for power this helped a lot ... up till then I just used body dragging to get my board or getting off the beach into deeper water .... I've also gone up a kite size and this helps ...I'm now making small controlled runs till I dig the front of the board in and go superman .... I now use my 9.5 from around 27-32mph and from around 20-27 my 11.5 and below that I have a 15m TS ... and if I'm using my 7.5 I shouldn't be out .... someone commented about doing stand-ups this is a good tip ...i'll try that ...years ago they did that in the lessons I had I forgot that ... and on another note ....who's coming out in the morning to shoreham or lancing ....
