just my tuppence worth

i fly with my mk2 access 10m when i can,it does take a wee while to get used to the slower turning but it is a good kite for buggying,if the wind is at that sweet point, pull in the bar and whooosh off you go

i tend not to loop the kite at all when starting a turn or to power out of a turn,i just bring it up to a more vertical position, start my turn and then bring it down into the wind and away i go,not the most exciting way but its what i like to do.

now on f/b kites its different,i fly a mk4 blade 4.9 as well ,and i have no problem looping the kite to assist in a turn, mind you it ends up in me going sideways, but its only when the wind isnt too mental i am able to do that, ive had many an OBE,so i know how quickly it can go tits up.

i have only 3-4 yrs buggying and possibly 1yr prior to that skiting about on my arse at our local park, its on the coast so winds are mostly clean, but you do get gusty days,so the blade gets packed up and the access comes out,but the difference in the kites is big,fly them both in the same session with the wind remaining constant and the access seems slow and less powerful compared to the blade,or it might just be me.

OP i have been in your position in the past and as the others have said, fly as many different kites as you can, then find what works for you and run with them,i have 2 and 3m samis, and theyre just ace when the wind gets going, powerful and super zippy,i have the 2m on a strop but the 3m sami and blade i fly with no strop, mind you if its a good wind blowing after an hour my arms are usually fecked !

i did try a PL twinskin a few times, but i was soo used to f/bs i wasnt taken with them but i might have another crack flying one again

most of all have no matter what you fly, just enjoy it

id rather have a mediocre session at the park than being stuck in the house

oh btw mick, zimmer sends his love :)

I. Have. Got. To. Get. A. Kitebike!

Looks like the Batbike and having ridden M/C's for 20yrs I might get the hang of it. Love the idea of leaning against the pull like boarding but having a low cg like buggying.

Many, many thanks for all the input guys. I think I just need to accept the fact that I fly in shit wind and no kite is gonna be the magic answer. I'll just keep getting excited trying new things as the years go by rather than trying to suss it all out in a week. Very disappointed that the only windy day this weekend is Monday and my new club I've just joined only runs on weekends and "Monday is a weekday"!!??!!

Have a great weekend guys. I'm biking and kayaking Sunday and got all day to kite on Monday. Can't wait :~)

Had a read through this lot and thought it may be worth adding this:

Very generalised but may be useful.

Think of a double mattress - that's a low aspect and stable.

A single is a higher aspect

Higher aspects fly faster as it's the wing tips which cause drag but you loose some stability.

AoA stick ur hand out of a moving car window palm facing down - very little drag - low AoA - fast.

Now tilt u r hand, two things happen u r hand pulls back and lifts that's high AoA

Fly a de-power bar out low AoA fast kite wide window, bar in higher AoA less window more pull/lift.
