waltervs Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 I am hoping to take my children (16 and 13) this summer to learn and/or improve on their kite surfing skills somewhere on the Biscay coast of France, perhaps just south of Brittany. What I am hoping to find is a small, personalised training facility where English is not regarded as a minority language. I should welcome any experience that might be of assistance Quote

C00KIE Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 In my experience of French kite schools language was not a problem. They point at the kite you should use, point at the sea, point at their watch to show when you are due back and leave you to it. Micks suggest is probably your best bet if you want to be safe and learn quickly. Maybe things have improved in france in the last 10 years but I wouldn't bet on it Quote
waltervs Posted April 17, 2014 Author Report Posted April 17, 2014 That is rather depressing! Thanks for the views Quote
mick Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 Thank you cookie for your agreement on that. @ walters. While I can see the attraction of kiting in warmer climes, I think it'd be fair to say that if English language is part of you priority, Hunstanton in my opinion really does take some beating. Great instructors at Kite Eze for eg. Hunstanton watersports as well and located at surely Britains premier kitesurf and windsurf centre. And of course you have Kevin and Di at Kitejunkies @ Nabq but it can get awful hot there. Quote
waltervs Posted April 18, 2014 Author Report Posted April 18, 2014 It is certainly the objective for my children and I to learn something - as much as possible - from the exercise; otherwise why bother with lessons. I have experienced "lessons" of the type described by Cookie on ski trips and I must say, it makes my blood boil to pay for tuition that is in effect baby-sitting on snow. As you suggest, I was hoping to go somewhere warm - but not as hot as Nabq - in the summer where advancing our so far rather limited skills might be fun, but if that is not true of France, I may have to think again. How sad. Quote
si-fly Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Years ago when I was looking to learn, the kite schools on the shallow lakes west of Bordeaux on the coast wanted a medical done by a local doc before they would teach!! Not sure they new what English was! Have also sailed the lake on the coast by Perpignan down south near the speed sailing beaches, they spoke some English there and get loads of wind, but had loads of tiny kites so not too much an issue....at least you get wind and sun Quote
