5N1TCH Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Egypt's tourist resorts turn into 'ghost towns' as visitors stay away | World news | The Guardian Quote
essexsj Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 I returned last Monday from a week at Sharm-el-Sheikh Nabq Bay in the Jaz Mirabel complex, a few minutes walk from KiteJunkies. Resort is definitely extremely quiet in comparison to other years I have been, had the whole lagoon to myself a few times during the week. Quote
benbaron Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 cheap holidays then ? I cant see any difference in prices from previous years. Looking on Thomson for the same dates as we went last year the price is actually a bit more. Why? no demand, should be cheap....whats going on. Quote
benjy_a Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 I guess because it's already cheap as chips...there is a bottom price limit below which it just wouldn't be profitable...quiet or not. Profit margins on these cheap package holidays must be tight already. Quote
andrew pattullo Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 same here ! cant find any bargains someone is making a mint , keeping the prices of holidays HIGH Quote
essexsj Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 I sourced my holiday from purpletravel.co.uk ...got an awesomely cheap deal all packaged together. Quote
benbaron Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 Dont think £5500 for a family of 4 in a hotel at 20% capacity is cheap as chips bud. Quote
vibro100 Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 I booked for the school holidays in April, certainly wasn't cheap. In fact we had trouble booking what we wanted as either the hotels were full, or we couldn't get a return flight. Quote
essexsj Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 There's a problem... School holidays! I paid £331 all in. Flights, luggage, accommodation all inclusive, and transfers... was rude not to. Quote
SonnyRider Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 There's a problem... School holidays! = supply and demand Quote
5N1TCH Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 = supply and demand Yep, us single blokes have got it made, cheap hols when there's no kids around plus we get to spend the money we've saved on drugs and hookers, WINNER! Quote
essexsj Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Signing up to travel sites like: Travel Deals | Holidays, Flights, Hotels, Cruises & Local Deals | Travelzoo UK Compare Flights, Holidays, Hotels, Car Hire | dealchecker helps to spot an early and affordable deal… For around 7 years I have priced up holidays found through these sites against popular "high street" travel shops, and found them significantly cheaper… even sometimes ending up on the same flight that is offered by the 'commercial' operator! While out in Sharm the other week, I was speaking to several other English tourists in the same hotel, and found that they had paid almost double that which I had managed to pay… and yes, through well known "high streeet" travel shops. Happy-Kite Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 Prices depend on the time you travel, around holidays it would be more as anywhereelse, other times are definitely more reasonable. I hope you know that Easy Jet flies to Sharm-el-sheikh from several airports in Europe, such as Geneve, London, Milano. You can book your flight as cheap as 40 Eur if you plan ahead of time. Great hotel deals for Dahab can be spotted on bookings.com. Transfer can be arranged through our kite school. Also if you contact us, we can help with local house rentals for long-term stay. Quote
Chaos Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 According to the news Sharm or the surrounding areas maybe not a good place to be after 20/2/14. Quote
benbaron Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 According to the news Sharm or the surrounding areas maybe not a good place to be after 20/2/14. What news? Quote
g0nz01599968659 Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 What news? There's a current foreign office warning to tourists in the South Sinai area, but it doesn't include sharm el sheik airport or any of the beach resorts in the nabq Bay Area, which have extra security.... We are off to the jaz Mirabel at the start of march. Bring on the sunshine! Quote
Chaos Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/egypt Previous attacks: 2012 'Two Britons dead' in Egypt bomb blasts | Mail Online 2005 2005 Sharm el-Sheikh attacks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I used to travel to Sharm to Scuba Dive, although there is armed security there is always a chance determined people will circumvent the checks. It is a soft target and if they succeeded it would be very news worthy and also cripple the tourism industry, which will be their aim. Just be careful folks Quote
