Hi Rocket, we are going to start with a small kite on the land first for a month then once we move from this apartment to our house we are going to try going on water. We watched these men jumping so big it looked like so much fun then sometimes they would just crash so going to take my camera next time.

Hi SammyP

Come down to the Kp shop at sans Souci, there is no pressure to buy just a bunch of people passionate about helping people get the most out of any type of kiting.

If you really want to get on the water get a trainer kite, and come and hang at Dolls and mee the Southern Sydney Kiteboarding Club crew, that way you will make friends with people who can help you get started on the water.

Lots of photo opportunities there too!

Good Call Marty!!

I will take this time to update mine....

OK - Well that one that was on the way was a Girl, now 5 months old named Annalise. I am about to relocate my family up to the Central Coast of NSW. Main reason for my move is for a lifestyle change....ie. More Kiting, Less Work.

I have been riding for KitePower in Sydney since late last year. This is a wonderful thing as anyone that has seen the back of my car will tell you. KP have been generous enough to completely load me up with the latest gear to try and allow other to try. This is one major development in my kiting life with another one being asked to join the Extreme Kites Team as a contributor, also back late last year. Due to both of the above I have become ALOT more well know throughout kiting as a sport and this website - ALL GOOD!

This just about keeps me upto date on this thread, stay tuned for more updates.

Only 9 pages here so far, sure there are more stories than that on here, who's up next???

Born in Wales (yes! it's a country) and named after the Patron Saint of Wales. Obviously lack of imagination from my Mother.

Studied engineering in London but lived most of my life in Switzerland (Have Brit. & Swiss passports).

Had many engineering jobs from designing cable cars to teaching power generation.

Worked for a Yankee multi-national and got to live in a lot of different countries including a 2+ year stint in Australia by the way.

I raced motorcycles in my youth (dodgy game), was an fanatical mountaineer most of my life, climbing most of the major peaks in the Alps and took part in an a expedition to the Himalaya to climb Kanchenchunga (3rd highest hill on the planet).

Lived in or on the edge of deserts traveling around them in 4X4's.

Started kite buggying in 2001 and still bombing around deserts but using wind power now.

Somehow in between all this, I tripped over & got married. They tell me that my Mrs. is a Saint to stay with me.

It takes all sorts I suppose & someone has to be a saint. Her name is Saint Brig. That's short for Brigitte and she's from the French speaking part of Switzerland while I'm from the German part (Bern).

I own my own house in the UAE and a farm in Switzerland. My future goal is to spend winters in the UAE & summers in Switzerland. i.e. warm weather all year around.

I do have a soft side having rescued two Arabic cats but have trained them well. One of them peed on Nigel's kite. Well! it was his kite bag actually.

Story of my life. - to be continued unless I get blown away tomorrow.

Ok, my turn I guess. My name is Hazel and I'm a recent import from the motherland (UK, obviously!) My wind sports started with dinghy sailing at the age of 6. Lots of changes of boats, ending up crewing 14 foot skiffs, which isn't dissimilar from flying big power kites!! Had a bash at windsurfing but it didn't inspire me. Had a go at paragliding and loved it, but was a bit freaked out by exactly how dangerous it was, then started kiting about 8 years ago. Started with a Flexifoil stacker 6, which I demanded from my boyfriend at the time as he was rubbish at presents. Kind of got hooked - by the kite, not the man! Bought a 5m Flexi Viper from a mate, nearly destroyed myself with it - I'm 5ft3 and not hugely heavy - so sold it back to my mate (6ft8 bloke!) and got an Iolo Radsail (think it's 4m - currently in my best mate's attic in the UK so can't quite remember) and a landboard (which I'm ashamed to say I've never used! Want to learn though!!) Then went to the Canary Islands to spend a week learning to kitesurf. Absolutely loved it so went back again the following year. Not a fan of kitesurfing in the UK as it's goddamn freezing and my drysuit isn't the easiest thing to manoeuvre in!! Have a real dream to start snowkiting, having attended the world champs in Norway a couple of years ago. Hoping to get back into all forms of kiteing now I'm out here.

Ok, so a bit more about me. I'm 31, from Leeds and single. Currently employed as a bid manager for a large global management consultancy based in Sydney CBD, although I'm a sports journalist by trade - specialised in rugby union, rugby league, cricket, winter sports, yachting/sailing, rowing and extreme sports. Also had to do my stint in football (soccer). Spent most of my youth competing at gymnastics around Europe. Nowadays I've discovered a passion for extreme sports, with my main obsession being snowboarding. I also sail, climb, swim and run (when not injured!)

Erm, think that's probably about it..... for now.....

Hey Hey. I'm Brad Smith. 36 years old. Married with 2 beautiful girls, 5 and 2. Living in Toowoomba and work as a mechanical engineer and company director. Got a 1.0m kite last year as a birthday present and thought how much fun it was. It seemed to pull pretty hard until I got my PKD BusterII 4.0m and took it out in 13 knots...now I know what pull and traction kiting really is. Good to see that the 5 year old likes flying kites as well. Only flies single lines at the moment but she had a go at the 2 line flexifoil today. Goes a bit fast for her though.

Like cycling and mountain biking, even if I'm about as fit as an 87 year old invalid at present. Tour De France always inspires me to get out on the bike. Very keen to make buggies since I have all the gear at work. Just need to find the time. I feel you can never have enough toys, even if my wife doesn't agree. The trick is to keep badgering until you get permission so you'll shut up about it. LOL

Good Kiting everyone

Hi everyone,

My name is Steve and live in Hobart.

I'm 45, married for 15 years with three kids (twins 7 and a 4 year old).

I'm a passionate dual line freestyle flyer , having spent 4 years flying Prism's Quantum Pro's , now I have moved onto l'Ateliers (Double Zero, Lynz Feather and Transfer xtr UL), my Benson Deepspace, Kevin Sanders Temptation and an R-Sky Nirvana NSE on the way...

I also fly Rev's (1.5's, Blast and Super Blast 2-4) and recently power foils with Blackant down here (just love my 5m Flow).

Mainly fly alone on Tassie beaches in the summer evenings in silky smooth winds, but take every opportunity to do the power kiting thing socially with blackant, Dave, Crawf, Matt and Dudley where possible.....

Blackant recently got me on a landboard - so who knows where that will lead!!

cheers

steve;)
