luka Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Thanks to Joel and Goshen for the invite to catch up and have a fly at Altona yesterday afternoon. Tried the 4mtr Blade IV and was surprised how comfortable I found this kite. This is not a review on any one product, more-so to encourage trying products that you may not have previously considered. Like me, you may find something that will confirm first hand, what your next purchase might be. It was good to meet Joel and put a face to a name and to see the air time he gets with his buggy. Thanks again to Goshen for the opportunity to meet up and try the gear and if you get the chance I do recommend getting in touch with the guys at kitepower. thanks Luka Quote
goshen Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 A truly amazing kite. I think I have found my new favourite. It's fast, but not so fast that it can't be controlled for big air. And big air this kite will deliver - in an easy to fly package. That's all I want to say for now... Quote
Frakke Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Apparently Rob Hills was going to marry his 4.0m Biv... but it couldn't do the dishes... or so the rumour had it.. I love mine too .. it comes out to play in 35 mph so that I can get those aerial kiteloops in..... now that's a buzz and a half especially one handed.. F   Quote
Zenon Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 This is more a question to Frakke I have the 6.5 BIV and looking at getting a smaller one.....but which one 4.0 or 4.9???? Im unsure.i like the idea of a 4.0 for its speed but the 4.9 III has always been such a great kite to me. Im not srue which is more appropriate....at the moment i fly my 6.5 up to 15knts then i want to switch to something smaller???? we dont often get over 25knts so whats better for me???? Anyone else is welcome to contribute to the answer. Quote
.Joel Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Zenon you are a featherweight, so I think the 4.0 would be alot of fun for you. I had a fly of the 4.0 the other day, and the power is similar to the 4.9, but not as grunty. Goshen likes lifty smaller kites, I don't like the angry wasp above my head so i like the larger inbetween kites (eg: 6.5). What was amazing though was seeing Goshen getting 4m - 5m of air on a 4m kite, mid-air stall then then go back to the direction he was coming from. The kite is certainly quick enough so you can use it to propel you in a complete opposite direction whilst in mid air. Not sure yet how we can apply this theory in a buggy  For your weight, and if you are looking for kite loops go the 4.0. Quote
Zenon Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Thats what i was thinking....it may still change but hey. Goshen got a couple you awant to send me to demo???  Quote
.Joel Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Goshen got a couple you awant to send me to demo???  Just get Rob to bring one over when he is in NZ next Quote
Zenon Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Unfortunatly from talking to him when i got his 6.5 he wont be coming back for a while...."time to stop bumming round and get back to real life" were his words.... He may be back but not just yet.... Quote
Frakke Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 @Zee - My quiver is 4 kites big now and of course they are all in Midnight so they match (very anal but there you go) 2.5m RAGE for mental wind 45mph+ on 35m lines 4.0m Biv 35mph + on 30m lines 6.5m Biv 25mph+ on 30m lines 8.5m Biv 5mph+ on 30m lines These kind of foil sizes with the AAA capability makes it very difficlt for me to justify a 4.9m and use it frequently due to the overlap I can achieve. I weigh around 90Kg and therefore being "lardy" can hold down quite a lot of power in high wind which again means that the swap from 6.5m at 30 - 35mph almost fully depowered (3rd knot) to the 4.0m fully powered is almost seamless for these reasons I would recommend a 4.0m... over a 4.9m...in the beginning I found that I wanted a kite of every metre area difference (i.e. 2.5m,3m,4m,5m,6.6m) one year on I didn't use the 3 or the 5 just went 6.6 -> 4 or vice versa... now I'm on Bivs I have chosen more wisely and it is not necessary to have a full quiver (for me anyway) Remember though the 4.0m really did spank me on new yers eve... they are quick so there is a relentless need to be "aware" of the kite at all times in high wind.. do this AWAKE and it's fun (especially when you can kiteloop even on the ground) if you're half asleep then go to the pub JUST NOTICED YOU HAVE BIII4.9m - awesome kite sooooo... Pick the 4.0m for a wicked quiver Hope this helps F :8 Quote
Zenon Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Cheers Frakke that helps immensly. I know just have to work enough to get the cash....the reason i want this info is without being able to demo it i have full confidence in it, it is a blade of course but i just wanted to see if the overlap was going to be too much with a 4.9. But ive now had basicly the same answer from 3 diff people whom i respect the opinions of. Soo hopefully this winter will be crap and therefore not worth getting it till next season where ill have all the money, time and hopefully wind. Quote
Luke Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 I have a Blade IV 4 meter, and I wouldn't swap it for anything, its quick powerful and pretty stable, great size for buggying I want to get another, no point in going 4.9, I would go straight to a 6.5 to widen the wind range. Don't be fooled by a 4 meter, my biggest static jumps have been with this kite in 14 knots of wind! Quote
Zenon Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Aww man i love my 6.5 BIV and ill never be without it. I was thinking about what size to get next and was worried about the 4.0 being to small but if it is as great as you say then ill be getting one.....I loved my 4.9 for static jumps so the 4.0 should be schweet. Good to hear your loving it dude. Zee "Live to Fly" Quote
Luke Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 nothing small about the 4 meter, have a look at my gallery http://www.extremekites.com.au/gallery/members/rocketman/ Quote
Zenon Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Your right those photos are great!!! and the jumps are wicked...what wind are they in generally speaking. I want one of those awesome flexifoil flags now...might have to talk to the boss. I now know i must get a heap of my own photos up on there. Fav photo is the first pic of the flexifoil buggy. then come those pics buggy blast. Great job rocketman Zee Quote
Luke Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 No dramas, your welcome, I dont own the flexifoil flag, they are very cool and I sure could have used a couple on stockton beach last weekend to map out a drag strip minus the 4WD going head to head with them. As for wind range, maximum 16 knots for any of those photos, as I said for its size it has a heap of power, also you get out of a jump as much as you "put in" thats half the secret. Quote
