elfasa Posted April 26, 2013 Report Posted April 26, 2013 Good fun. I enjoyed that You are much better than I was first time out Tim Quote
betty swallox Posted April 27, 2013 Author Report Posted April 27, 2013 Thank you, I have been messing around with the kites for a while now and have had a few trips out on a land board. The kite in the vid is an Ozone Flow 4m , I also have a HQ Montana 9.5 de power but I have not managed to get on that well with it yet, not sure if I am trying to fly it in too lighter winds or what. I shall keep trying and if I have no luck then I will buy a larger fixed bridal kite. I was looking at these turbo bars and wondering what they are like. Biggest problem down here is finding places with clean win to fly in as all the beaches seem to be a no no Quote
betty swallox Posted April 27, 2013 Author Report Posted April 27, 2013 With the above in mind how do you think I would fare with a Blade v 6.5 for light wind days as there is one i am watching on ebay? Quote
elfasa Posted April 27, 2013 Report Posted April 27, 2013 What kind of wind speeds were you trying your Montana in? (Good kite by the way ). Check out the 'meets' section of the forum. You can find locals with info on good spots. I dont know exactly where but the guys at SKD fly somewhere down there, Portsmouth / Southampton way! Do you know much about Blades ? They will be verrry different to the Flow that you are used to. They are an aggressive, lifty kite, favoured primarily by people who do jumps / freestyle etc. I don't have any first hand experience, but know about them from others. The 6.5 is the best low wind kite out of the blade sizes. Whether it suits what you want it for is for you to decide. Just be aware its a big step away from your flow ! Tim Quote
betty swallox Posted April 27, 2013 Author Report Posted April 27, 2013 Hard to say really as I have not invested in a meter, but I would say less than 10 mph. Just seems very slow and unresponsive compared to the flow and just wants to fly straight above my head then collapse, very frustrating. I'm sure ill get the hang of it. So would you say the blade would put me well out of my depth then? Quote
elfasa Posted April 27, 2013 Report Posted April 27, 2013 Ah okay. You don't need a wind meter, but it does help when you're getting used to a kite / reading the wind. I have one, but rarely use it. I don't know specifically about the montana 9.5, but my guess would be that it needs 14+ to get going to be honest. I've got an 11m frenzy, and that's good from 9-10+. As for the blade putting you out of your depth.. It depends on a lot of factors really, I couldn't say outright. It's definitely more advanced than your Flow. I'd say your best option is to meet up with some locals if you can, and have a try on their kit, specifically blades if you're interested in them. If your really taken with them though get one for sure, but be aware they are different to your other kites. Do research on them, and ideally contact a blade flyer get some tips (which I cant tell you I'm afraid !). Tim Quote
betty swallox Posted April 27, 2013 Author Report Posted April 27, 2013 Thanks for that bud, may just hold fire on the blade and concentrate on getting to grips with the Montana. Quote
xtreme playboy Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 The flow is a great kite there Betty and even better when combined with an Ozone turbo bar , don't confuse this bar with just a standard bar! I have one on my 5m flow and its my most used set up , if you look at my profile you can see from my list of kites that I fly varied kites , as for the blades don't be scared they ain't that bad lot of hype , IMHO the bullets far worse my 3m blade is a pussy cat compared with the 3.5 bullet I had , iam sure I will get shouted down at this point . All kites bite and its generally smaller kites ,the main thing is to have the right size kite for the conditions and your skill level but not in your comfort zone all the time otherwise you will not progress. My worst experience was with a 1.2 flexi sting in 50-60 mph wind ! I was at port Solent cpl of weeks back way to wet so hope it's dried out some, iam from Bournemouth and I do venture to lords hill in soton now and again but not as good as it looks. Maybe you should come down to baiter park in Poole once its dried out and come down with the crew we can help you out on the depower plus have a go on the turbo bar and have a go on the blade. Stick with your de power iam sure you will get the hang of it , the feel of a de power is different to fix bridle and they tend to be slower to respond but that's also due to the size , your 4m fb will be very responsive. If you search on you tube for stanpit 7th April there's a clip of the guys there, iam in the white helmet flow 5m on the turbo racing crazy Pete on blade 6.4 and there's not a lot in it as you can see , iam also on the kite bike . Just give us a shout if you fancy meeting up ,I will be popping up to port Solent if is dry Quote
kiteboysi Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 You can use hilton field at top of easten road good in easterlys.we also use sand bar down on hayling beach. Its good hard smooth beach at low tide. Sand bar goes out about 1 mile ish. Just need insurance and helmet to fly down there. If you are on facebook look up hayling kite buggiers. we use it quite a bit. Quote
betty swallox Posted May 3, 2013 Author Report Posted May 3, 2013 Thanks for that Playboy, have been researching the Turbo bar and think I will try one out when I get back from work (one month) didn't bother with the Blade in the end. Kiteboysi, I have often thought it would be great to buggy down by the golf course on Hayling when the tide was out but thought that was the domain of the kitesurfing club where you had to be a member to play, is this not the case then? kiteboysi Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Nope, I just need your insurance to add to list. Just be careful as tide comes in quick and use common sense uf lots of people on each dont fly. We,use the, sand bank as its fast and not many get out there. If you fancy meeting up down there it would be good. Quote
betty swallox Posted May 4, 2013 Author Report Posted May 4, 2013 That would be great, I will be home in about three weeks. Any recommendations for insurance? Quote

betty swallox Posted May 27, 2013 Author Report Posted May 27, 2013 Well I am due home this week so as soon as the conditions are right I shall get down there. I took out insurance while I have been offshore so hopefully there should be a policy waiting for me in the mail when I get home and I can let you have the details. Once I have done that what do I say if some one pulls me with the old "you can't do that here!" Quote
