sparkycrew Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 hy guys and girls, got my board for xmas and lovin it,but what should the tyre pressures be,on the tyre sidewall it says inflate to 50 psi, also should i keep the tension on the trucks tight to begin with to help balance and wobbles on first runs,to be fare ive had maybe 7or 8 short runs on it under kite power and it feels great,i cant believe how quickly iam gettong used to a board under feet especially at my age, the last board i rode was a crappy 70's plastic skate board LOL nick Quote
PurpleMonkey Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Dude, it's cool you are getting moving so quickly, as for tyre pressure and truck tension, it is more about personal preference and riding conditions more than anything. Harder tyres will accelerate quicker but provide a little less sideways grip on hard sand or turf, than softer tyres, but softer tyres will have a bigger footprint on softer, wetter ground, as for truck tension a looser truck will carve much tighter, but as you say will have speed wobble. IMO, tighten your trucks until you are comfortable riding along, then start to loosen as you start to learn to carve more Quote
Batz Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 50 is the MAX. I run my tyres at about 35psi most of the time. As for truck tightness, I have mine pretty solid, I prefer to hop rather then carve BUT it's personal preference./ Quote
papalazaro Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 im the same as batz re pressure but i have loose trucks as i love carving i did start off with lower pressure to help keep speed down when i started but i feel the speed helps with balance Quote
KiteKim Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I started with my tyres pumped up to the max but soon found that running lower pressures helped with control. Harder tyres accelerate faster, go faster and provide less grip on wet/ soft surfaces. Best thing to do is to take a pump to the beach with you and try out different pressures. I now run my tyres at around 30 - 35 psi. Trucks are sort of the same. Starting with them fairly tight can help you stay balanced and focused on the kite without worrying about the board to much because it won't turn to quickly. After that you can change them to however you like. Again, trying different settings will help you establish what is best for you. Quote
sparkycrew Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 thanks for the replies folks set my pressures to 20 psi just so there is a slight bulge at the contact area, the trucks have bedded in nicely and have loosen up a little, iam really comfy on the board and practice on the laminate floor in the dining room daley, kim i see you have a psycho atm board how do you rate it,i love mine but have no experience of other boards,i have supprised my self how quickly i have got used to having wheels under foot especially as iam 6"5 inches tall nick Quote
