Drizzly Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 I have recently started buggying and currently am using flexifoil prolink handles with a strop line. I am finding that when i'm changing my direction of travel they are catching on my knees are there any shorter handles better suited. Quote

Im fine with prolinks in my race buggy and thers lots more to catch them on try puting the kite higher or tilt the handles sideways Stu Quote
catdog1121 Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 As stuart alludes to it depends on the size of kite, generally smaller sizes you can get away with smaller handles however larger kites you need the longer handles as they are slower and need more brake when turning. I use ozone handles as they are cheap and pretty good, use small on the 2.7 and 3.4, then large on the 4, 5, 6, 7.3 and then extra large on the 10m. What kind of strop line are you using, maybe its too small for you, we all tend to buy climbing accessory cord, I think if I remember the pro-links can handle max 6mm accessory cord. Go to an outdoors kind of place that sells climbing gear, most good places have accessory cord, you can then make the strop as long as you want. Quote
Drizzly Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Thanks Guys. I have been flying 3.5m and 5 m both with prolinks. I guess it's more down to improving my technique than handle size. I am using the flexifoil strop lines I think the length is 65cm. I''l pick up some accesory cord and experiment with different lengths. Keith Quote
DOWNHILL44 Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Hi Try Pkd handles there great as you can adjust the brakes on the go if the wind gets gusty small handles small kites long handles big kites .Dai Quote
Hammer-n-saw Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 (edited) Prolinks were too grippy and heavy for me. Ozone are nice and PL are cheaper. I prefer ozone if I needed to buy some again. Edited August 13, 2011 by Hammer-n-saw Quote
slam777 Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 there are no "best for buggying" handles in my opinion,,the best ones are the ones which "work best for you",try all sorts then decide. Quote

smackay116 Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Prolinks work just fine for me. I fund they get gripy when wet. Do you have that problem SY? Stu Quote

Patch1599968828 Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 I use prolinks and have no issues. try turning the bottoms out so they are sort of diagonal instead of vertical Quote
pompey Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 I agree with slam777 try as many different handles as you can, i have used flexis- ozones-pkds-pansh- and many others you will know what you feel comfortable with. Quote
Roors Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 I try turning the bottoms out so they are sort of diagonal instead of vertical It's maybe unclear from your original post, but you say you are using prolink handles with a strop line. You don't say specifically whether you are using a harness and pulley/captive system. I will presume that you are. I tend to fly with the handles between about Twenty to Four and Quarter to Three on a clock face. As well as avoiding hitting your knees, it also keeps them above the level of the side rails on a big buggy AND you can use the full length of the strop to control the kite. If you hold the handles vertically, you can't pull the brakes on with one handle pulled into your body when steering. Quote
Mouthwash Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 All depends on kite size and AR. Low AR "beginner kites" makes no odds, they normally don't require any brakes other that to land. As soon as you get into higher AR kites where brakes are required to get the best out of them you will need handles commensurate with the kite size. Big kites need big handles (to exercise the brake leverage over a bigger angle) and small kites can cope with smaller handles....etc. Whether you choose one make of another is down to kite type and preference. As in life, length is the most important aspect. After that it's down to adjustability and, in particular, brake length. Then you need a set of handles with clam cleats for the brake leaders. The best I have come across are PKD, but I would say that. Quote
Skydude Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 If they're the ones I'm thinking of then it was my mate Leigh that made them, I'm pretty sure he's completely out of stock now and very unlikely to got thru the hassle of making a load of them again unfortunately for all of us :-(, but I'll ask him on Sunday at our local Kite fest and let you know !! Trikbitz Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Think they could have been the ones Lazer (Brian) made a while ago he had yaks as did his mate Phil (Aktive8) and im sure they both used them Quote
