kathyb Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 It took me ages to untangle the lines. i tried yesterday but no luck. Stuck at it. people were about walking their dogs or jogging. Felt a bit self conscious:o but thought no one knows me and I've just spent nearly an hour untangling the lines. Then it just happened! The kite took off. Its a 3m Hornet. At times it really pulled a bit scary. Couple of times i had to let go VERY scary. i feel I have got the hang of it. I am absolutely shattered. What a work out. I wouldn't want to go when its very windy. Mine's only recreational. But this is plenty big enough. Any one struggling I'd say stick with it. It takes a few goes to understand the lines but each time you understand a bit more. Fun, fresh air keeps you fit. I'll take a picnic next time now that i can do it. Quote
PurpleMonkey Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 yay! Glad you enjoyed it. welcome to the KAA. Kite Addicts Anonymous Quote
frozenskys Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Its a 3m Hornet. I wouldn't want to go when its very windy. Mine's only recreational. And that is where the bank account starts to take a hit as you "just need a smaller one for when the wind is too strong" and then comes the "I need a bigger one for when the wind isn't enough"... Quote
frozenskys Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Well that's what happened to me - just started with a single line "pocket kite" with the kids, three months later I had bought two new Ozone Imps and an Ozone 4 line bar, and a second hand Flow... Quote
kathyb Posted May 9, 2011 Author Report Posted May 9, 2011 Still need to get the hang of this one. Mind you when the wind took hold it was a bit too scary and yes maybe a smaller one might be a bit calmer. Quote
frozenskys Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 See it's started already.. time to join the KAA before it's too late Quote
Bex Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Still need to get the hang of this one. Mind you when the wind took hold it was a bit too scary and yes maybe a smaller one might be a bit calmer. And now it starts... kiting is an addiction, one Is never enough..... This sport should come with a health warning... BEWARE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WILL BE PUNISHED...:) Welcome to the fold of the afflicted Quote
kathyb Posted May 9, 2011 Author Report Posted May 9, 2011 Well I hope i do get addicted, its gonna be my new fitness thing.I've just cancelled my gym. The weather has just turned lousy which is why I'm on here. I feel more confident now. The very first time was on a beach and it was way too windy to be trying. Second time beach again with my daughter and she tripped over a log running backwards and broke her wrist. So had no-one to go out with which puts you off when you dont know what your doing. Any way third time lucky, won't feel worried next time, might go out tonight if the weather picks up and depending how stiff my shoulders are. lol Quote
CWB Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 its absolutly throwing it down here, but much fun can be had after some rain if ure flyin on grass, but bewarned ware some clothes that can be thrown in the bin wen uve finished kiting because they wont cum clean, lol. Enjoy Quote

ViralEye Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Still need to get the hang of this one. Mind you when the wind took hold it was a bit too scary and yes maybe a smaller one might be a bit calmer. the moment you start questioning what size kite youve got, is the moment you start buying more, and more, and more... Nitro_uk Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 LoL it's true, I started off with a cheap 2.5m powerkite for my kids, then decided to get a 4m beamer IV for me, then instantly addicted and now waiting for a blade III 6.6m coming in the post, also bought a harness / strop too and hopefully getting a board soon!! and I thought that when I bought the beamer i'd be sorted but OMG it snowballs and there's no getting away from it !!! great fun and yes very good exercise. rob91193 Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 bottomless pit . you can say that again!!! Quote
LHF-scottishrep Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Well done. I started on a super10. Then stacked it with my friends because the thirst for more power was needed. Then progressed onto a 5.5m bullet- that was more than enough but there was times that the bullet was too much and the 10 wasn't enough so the 3.5m rage joined the family. It was once I had the bullet I got a land board and since then, well and truely hook and the bank balance and limbs have been suffering since! Any regrets???? NONE!! festa Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 well done kathy it will become an addiction though,as previously said^^ i got my brother flyin for the first time bout month ago,he said all he wanted to do was to fly his kite and maybe get a few scuds in here and there.. a month on he learnin' to jump and already wants another kite lol ..cant get enough of it its all good though, like u say, it is a good workout but unfortunately will end up costin more than a gym membership lol... have fun . but unlike a gym membership a kite will get used and don't cost anything if you are not using it Quote
parksy Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 See people keep saying it's an addiction!! Now that's a strong word, I don't think it's an addiction, you can give up any time you like, I don't know why you would, but you could! If you really wanted to! But then what would you do? The only reason to give up would be if you couldn't fly, but then if you bought another kite, you might be able to fly! So there is no reason to give up. And it's good for your health, it gets you outside in the fresh air, you get to meet great people. Therefore it isn't an addiction, it's just something you need to do to maintain your sanity. Who cares if it costs a little bit of money here and there? It's not like it's a problem!! Seriously!! No really!!! *oi where you going with my telly* Quote
frozenskys Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 You know it's bad when your 9 year old says "Daddy, can you please not buy a kite this month cause we'd like to eat!" Quote
