Night Kiting and LED lights

Hi all,

Just curious if there was anyone else out there that also enjoy's flying at night, with LED lights?

I've been trialing various LED's and have come to the conclusion that the "Straw-hat" style led's are the best so far.

I have recently designed light rig's here in Brisbane very similiar to those available from Passion Kites in Singapore and have also purchased several 3m Delta's from them that have pre-designed LED lights on them.

I've stuffed a couple of glow sticks down either side of the kite - that worked very nicely and didn't upset the kite too much. Would love to get my hands on some of the EL Glow wire - looks like that would be cool. Not too expensive. http://www.elec2go.com.au/category25_1.htm

Would like to do a bit more night flying and buggying but it's hard to line up a mild night, a steady breeze and the motivation all at the same time!

Interesting Johh H., though the inverters look rather bulky and possibly heavy for kites or (gliders). They did not mention the weight.

There's a whole bunch of different configurations to power the EL. The single AA battery one weighs around 35gms. Details here: http://www.elec2go.com.au/category41_1.htm I know my Nasa's will happily lift my gopro without any dramas which I'm sure is towards 200gms....

Is a link above in regards to the Redcliffe Night Kiters group that myself and a few other local keen kiters have started.

I usually had used a CR2032 3V Button cell with a led taped to it and find that it works rather well.

Grab any of the LED strips, red/blue/green/whatever etc and stick a small 2S 600mah $3 LiPo on there. Get LEDs & a rechargeable battery that way

I may conjure up something for Sandy Point this November to stick in the kites, or attach to the wingtips as I have a heap of 1/2 and 1/3 LED strips here.
