balugh Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 I'm bored... If it picks up a bit I might head up and give it a go at the sailing club as it's a big tide today but it is not looking very hopeful at the moment.... :-( A bit of gardening and then Olympic ogling...which I will definitely medal in at the Games in Rio... ady Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 EDP have wriiten an article on kitesurfers terrorising seals. Really fucking annoyed me. If it's true (which i doubt) then,,well stating the obvious. But i can't imagine any kitesurfer i know to be that stupid and they also said a seal was hit by a kitesurfer,,,,Really ???? This is a really damaging article. Its online at EDP24. Quote

balugh Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 That would be really crap if they were surfing amongst the seal colony. As you know, they pop up every now and then around us at Brancaster and in Hunstanton but we stay well away from the colony. I hope this story is overblown by the observers rather than people being tw*ts. But, it does show that we are being observed most of the time these days and people will raise concerns almost immediately. Quote
mick Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 Well I'm back and I'm black. Well certainly my arse is. My neck and back are a little better and the bruising has subsided. I'm now able to walk, drive short distances and sleep without pain killers. Why, what happened you ask? ( I know you didnt but I have to be dramatic ) I've been to Cape Verde kitesurfing. Not Sal but Boa Vista and not Karamboa but Touareg. A kitesurf school opened there but after 2 mths, closed and relocated. Tomas, the owner called the conditions, hardcore and challenging in an email to me. Half a mile from the water you can hear thunder. Well it aint thunder, its the 5 mtre high shorebreak. I kid you not. Forget Cornwall or Wales. This is rad stuff. Not nice waves just a huge huge shorebreak. Walk in to your knees, the outgoing wave sucks like Monica Lewinsky, the water rushes out dragging the sand with it only to collide with an incoming wave. This jacks up to a huge hieght and crashes down like Thor protesting about something bad. The weight of water coming down is crushing. If you get caught, you're in for a minimum of 4 assaults. Rinsed, rolled, tossed up and crushed. Trust me, this is a bad ass place and the water should never be entered. 3 deaths this year on yellow flag days and so many people in the hotel with broken limbs and neck braces. Me ? First time in paddling mind, I took a big slam into the sea bed. 2nd time in, I got out past the shore break and had a 'swim'. 3rd time in, out past the shorebreak and a rogue wave jacked up and pounded me till I thought I was dead. I wasn't, but a week later and I still hurt like shit. All this on yellow flag days. A red flag day in August puts up 6 or 7 mtre waves like a Tsunami and really is quite scary to look at. You never quite know how big the next one is going to be. Thats how unpredictable it is. Can't wait to be back with you lot. XXXXX Quote
ady Posted August 15, 2012 Author Report Posted August 15, 2012 Sal is much the same Mick. I didn't know you'd been slammed though,,hope you better soon mate. I did get caught out once as i came into shore too far to turn around and turned straight into an over head height shore dump, felt like being in a washing machine lol. just when you think its all over another comes crashing on top off you. Arms and legs everywhere lol. See you soon Mick. Quote

I would love to come and play and if I could grab a lift from another Cov. kitesurfer I'd be over like a flash. mick Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Thats the beauty of a yellow flag day E. One minute the shore break is like Hunstanton, the next, you're gonna die in a 6 mtre Tsunami. What a friggin place. Quote

Mark K Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 I'm sure you weren't alone... :-) Just packing up and heading out...so hope it sticks around for a little while tonight. Cheers Mark, myself and Martin from Cambridge got out at Heacham, tide was not the best as was heading back out for a low early aft.. Did not matter that the water was shallow though, had the 10 fully powered all morn, gusting to late 20's/30 cross shore.. Great session, glad to get a good one in after 3 wks of frustrating wind conditions. Only problem was walking back across the mud at low tide! Quote
