mashup Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 Hi there people, Im want to buy a new landboard. I want the board to be good for Mountainboard Downhilling & Kite Freeriding. Im not too fussed about tricks at this stage. I'm more of a speedfreak, who likes to do the occasional jumps and tricks. My current board is an MBS Core 16 which i feel is a nice length for speed/Stability, but it is getting a bit old now. I have been doing some research on good Crossover boards that will satisfy my Mountainboarding/Landkiting needs. I have been looking at the Trampa 35Long complete kiteboards with Vertigo Trucks, also the new Ground Industries Conflict and the MBS Comp 95. I want the board to 110-120 in Length, well built, strong, with top components and most importantly, as light as possible (For when i Kite). I am 11 stones and 5" 11". My question is, Has anyone out there tried any of these boards? And if so which board do you think will be best suit what i need? Also, if there are any other boards that you think i should take a look at, that i may have overlooked, then please tell me what they are. I have a budget of What would you get if you were me? All feedback truly appreciated, Cheers, Mat Quote
mashup Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 Thanks for the reply. One possibility that i have is to buy a Trampa deck and re-use my old Matrix trucks off my Core16. I do have the money to buy a complete, brand new setup, but is it worth re-using any of the components from my Core16? Are the Vertigo trucks and superstar hubs a noticeable upgrade? Or will the Matrix and T1's be good enough for what i want? Also, If i wanted to lose additional weight, later on, down the road, Is chopping down the Trampa deck an easy task? Quote
sniels Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) Well, since you allready have a board, I'd just take a good look back at the times you rode it, and think about what could be better. If you like the trucks/binds/treads etc. of your old setup, but just not happy with the deck, go for a trampa deck for instance, and reuse em. If your old components are worn down or just crappy, go for a new complete! And then you can make your decision also based upon what you missed in your old set up. mashup Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 Very True. I know what you're saying, and believe me, those are the exact processess that i have been going through, but im still not any nearer a conclusion here, hence, i thought i'd post a thread to hopefully get some feedback and opinions from experienced users of any of these boards. Has anyone tried the new Ground industries Conflict? I like that it's the lightest crossover i have seen. Quote
mashup Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 Scrap that. I definitely wanna go Trampa. Quote
mashup Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 Basically. I suppose what it im really trying to ascertain now, is whether its worth getting a brand new, complete Trampa board, or whether I should just buy the deck and re-use the trucks and wheels from my old Core 16. Can anyone out there vouch for a Trampa deck with Matrix trucks and MBS wheels? Can anyone make a ride comparison between a Trampa deck with Matrix trucks/MBS Wheels and a Trampa deck with Vertigo trucks/Rockstar hubs. Is there a real noticable difference to warrant the extra £££. Cheers Quote
Dubs Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 I can think of one trampa advantage....... PIMP Quote
Fred53 Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 or get a new CKB? arent some more being made in the new year? Quote
mashup Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 I'd prefer to buy Brittish, so it'll be Trampa. Quote
Dubs Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 CKB Is british mate- all the best landboards are british! (Trampa, CKB, D-ex, Campbello, kite deck etc etc) Quote
Westwood Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 buy british? your buying chinese no matter what you get unless you opt for ckb. have you actually ridden a trampa deck? Any board is going to feel much nicer than the Core 16 however you need to remember what you want out of the board. To get the overall length you want, you are looking at a Trampa long deck which will not be stiff. Test test test. Quote
mashup Posted December 21, 2009 Author Report Posted December 21, 2009 I've been assured that Trampa is British made, and as for the long deck not being stiff, surely a 16 ply would be stiff enough for my weight and usage? Quote
tsp13 Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 phone ted at trampa, he'll anser all your questions and more Quote
yorkierob Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 agree with tsp13 ^^^^ Teds a good guy and wont try to sell you summat you dont want/need Quote
Westwood Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 I've been assured that Trampa is British made, and as for the long deck not being stiff, surely a 16 ply would be stiff enough for my weight and usage? you have been lied to. british design is even pushing it, but production is not in the uk. a 16ply probably would be stiff enough, but how much does that weigh? try before you buy to avoid disappointment. the feel of a plastic deck is very different to that of a wood and glass deck. Quote
tsp13 Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 Im pretty sure that trampa decks are hand made in the uk. Quote
ParkerBomar Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 Trampa is not all plastic. and 16ply is pushing it. thats What i have on my mountainboard and most riders who will hit huge jumps only use 13 ply. And yes trampas are all hand made by Ted Orr and his crew. Quote
