flyingsolo Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 never tried the go pro but I do have the ATC3k helmet cam and it works fine you will find that due to the waterproofing on these types of camera that the sound quality is a bit low - as in muffled Quote
North Wind Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 KiteitRight Tom took one out at Rhossy a while back and can give you the skinny. BA Quote
thelukeandrews Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 (edited) from what I've seen, it's the only consumer priced action cam with a nice wide angle lens.. which is everything. the more common sort, you can't see a bloomin thing cos the slightest jiggle and the picture's just all over the place. also with filming other kiters you'll be able to get rider+kite in the shot fairly often. I think those shots are way more interesting. if there are any wide angle alternatives let me know. Also what I'd love to see is one with a high frame rate so you can get nice smooth slow motion when you want hang on.. they're not all wide angle, just this: http://www.goprocamera.com/index.php?area=2&productid=1 wide is more important than HD, what's the point in having extra pixels crammed into the same viewing area when all you can see is sea...sky...sea..sky..splash... CKB Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 I got the standard definition one from Tom at KiteItRight a few months back. Lewis Wilby has it on loan at the moment so it might be worth asking him. He had a few issues with the battery life but i haven't seen any results from it yet. Wish I had waited for the HD one, the results look stunning from those shown on the GoPro website. Quote
KiteItRight Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 the HD one is quite literally stunning but the standard one does the job too Quote
DaftCookie Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Picked up a gopro hd about about a week ago and managed an hours kitesurfing with it in good light yesterday...1080p looks awesome, thou lens angle is reduced to 127 deg. Need to try other settings for full 170. Out of interest does can anybody recommend any good video editing software then i might be able to put on youtube. Quote

MrPhill Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Whats the best way of mounting the camera to the lines? Thinking of getting one but cant get my head around that bit Quote
Andy-j Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 lines? you mean your kite? try: CamRig - How To Quote
MrPhill Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Nah on the lines. Ive seen some pics of Johara Sykes-Davies where she's mounted the cam on her lines Quote
_Geordie_ Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 I've got the HD version here but not been out with it yet. The camrig on the kite would be too far away with the fisheye lens. Best thing to do is use the base plate supplied in the box. Drill a hole in each corner or centre of the square plate and then attach it too your lines above the bar - depending on how your kite bar is rigged depends on how you lash it up. I've modified mine, but not got round to flying with it yet to see how it behaves - but in this config it'll be close enough to get you from above. One of the lads has put up a snowkiting vid with the new cam but only in default res. Looks like a good bit of kit - just need the time and the weather to try it out!! Quote
T595 Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 There is also this as a mount which i have for mine. gopro chesty - Google Product Search Quote
destroyer Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 i personaly think the motorsport hero mount looks best for a board attachment Quote
