Never tied the real thing though. I can, however, tie a chinese knot, four in hand, half windsor and full windsor in a tie, plus the reverse versions. There's 85 realistically possible ways to tie a normal tie, as proven by maths and that. I used to have a book on it.

 

I love the way formal dress is going up here, it used to be a quasi-military jacket, frilly, faffy dress shirt, cufflinks, bow tie and kilt....like this

But these days you can quite happily turn up a wedding in a ghillie shirt and kilt, it's quicker and warmer than slinging on jeans and a t-shirt :D

One Lieutenant Colonel I once knew used to tear off and set fire to any fake bow ties he found at dinners he was hosting. I learned to tie a real one pretty quickly, honestly it's a fairly easy, just like a shoelace around your neck.
