i got a used pair of ski boots and used pair of snow blades last year off ebay-not used em yet ,but i've been watching this thread with interest ready for some heavy snow this winter:)..and i'm thinking they would work better with a fixed bridle on handles such as a blade , in the way that skim boards work quite well with blades on handles on the water.....i reckon you need a kite you can throw about quickly , rather than a slower depower

I'd think a big kite with a good amount of lift would be the order of the day. Snowblades are not great in new powder due to their small surface area - you sink through quite easily.

If we get sufficient snow this winter I'll give my snowblades a shot, but will use a big depower foil. Maybe we should compare results Slide ;)

I was out yesterday with snow-blades in Banff National Park They were my sons and I wanted to try them on a frozen swamp with 3 inches of snow, it was good fun and a great way to learn, easy turning helps. All in all good fun, but longer skis and snowboard when there is more snow for sure. Snow-blades grip really well on the ice almost like a skate and run flat nicely.

Surely speed riding 5000ft down the Eiger, over cliffs and boulder fields at 70km isn't Knapsu.

Surely:

Manly: Speed riding 5000ft down the Eiger, over cliffs and boulder fields at 70km/h.

OK: kite buggying along a beach at 60 km/h

Knapsu: flying a kite in the park while sucking a lollipop.

;-)

Crabman, I see you you live in Aviemore. I used to live in Scotland. I remember that many over there considered men from south of the border to be posh (to describe it politely, and to not express more homophobia in this forum). It's like in the county where I grew up in norternmost Sweden. There they have an expression, "knapsu", which in local Finnish dialect means "girlie", or "womanish". Men's role is built upon one thing: To not be Knapsu.

Here are some examples of what is acceptable behaviour and what is not.

Manly: Bear hunting and illegal moose hunting.

Ok: Legal moose hunting.

Probably knapsu: Deer hunting.

Manly: Dynamite or rifle fishing.

Ok: Ice fishing.

Knapsu: Fly fishing.

Manly: Moonshine.

Ok: Beer (barely okay).

Knapsu: Anything else. A good single malt would probably be considered knapsu, I mean, storing good moonshine for years in a barrel to loose alcohol strength, that would sound quite knapsu to a true northerner.

All things regarding kite would probably be regarded knapsu :)

Yeah, that really sums it up unfortunately. Because bladers are almost universally derided by the skiing crowd. They're for people who are either too lazy to learn to ski or are technically unable. I find both of those types to be "gay". And I don't see either strapping themselves to a kite, which is good because they'd only have an accident, cause public outcry, and lead us to more unnecessary regulation.

I mean, why would you wear a blade if you could ski. Would you wear a short sleeved fur coat? Cutaway shoes? I don't see boarder trying their luck on tray-sized boards. No, they're fundamentally crap. Woosie. Not the people, mind, just their choice of transport. Sorry. (Though if you choose to do it, of course, that's great for you)

dont ever ride blades unless you are unsure of your sexuality.. end of topic.
