Robster Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 just bend your knees and straighten your legs very quickly using the momentum to lift your feet off the ground. !!!! Quote

Krazy Kiter Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 be very careful when learning this. WEAR A HELMAT. Start in lighter winds and work your way up. Say you are riding to the right, with your kite at about 2 o'clock. Edge a bit to put power into the kite, then send the kite back against your direction of travel, high across the zenieth (12 o'clock). This will cause you to jump. Now comes the important bit! As you leave the ground fly your kite back the other way, so back towards 1 o'clock. Keep the kite nice and high. This will make sure you float nice and gently back down again, and land the same way as you took off. Point you board down wind a bit so that you dont stack it and ride off Its best to start stactic in light winds. Try to get someone to show you, and dont practice alone. If it goes wrong you might need help. whatever you do RE-DIRECT YOU KITE and KEEP IT HIGH. Can't tell you that too many time. Kite choice is important too. some kites lift more than others. Ones like rages, blurrs and flows tend to pull more than lift. it is possible to jump them, but you wont go high. Ones like Blades, Sabres, Mantas, Frenzy's, ARC's and most LEI's lift. Alot. So be careful, you might go higher than expected.. Also jumping in gusty winds in a no-no. dangerous and unpredictable, because you can get lofted a long way up by a gust, only to have it drop, causing you to fall. Enjoy Quote
lewisg1 Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 im just starting to jump , just waiting for some wind but thats helped me out a bit as well, im using a 13m venom so pleanty of float and i can already static jump so im on my way, hoping to get out sunday and greg ur gettin started at the same age i was so good luck with ur first jumps, thanks guys thats helped me out as well:) Quote
plummet Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 the right kite helps and the right conditions. 10m depower foil in 12-15 knots is ideal. look for clean winds too. beach and lots of spare spce. Quote
PainSuffering Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 My general question: What kite are you fying to jump with? My general answer: Buy protection first. Then read the above answers. Quote
Krazy Kiter Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 What kite do you fly? That would be nice to know. Quote

A lot of people tell me the same. But the way I jump (on a blade) is to run in the OPPOSITE direction to the kite (so the kite goes from 2 o clock to 10 o clock and I run from left to right) then as I turn it to go back, it give me lift so I jump Is this because depower kites are different? Quote
Cafe.Racer Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 No, it's the same, it's because you're static jumping. In your description above, imagine that just before the "OPPOSITE direction" bit you and the kite were both going the same direction - this would be as though you were on a board. Then you send the kite back the OPPOSITE direction, then, finally, redirect. Quote
thelukeandrews Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 aaaah!! I see!! So same direction is the same as being static when you're..er.. flying static. *head explodes* Quote
-Greg Posted October 7, 2009 Author Report Posted October 7, 2009 i fly a 1.6 vibe and a 1.8 rage Quote
tsp13 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 your not going to go very high on those, 20+ plus and the rage should be ok for static jumps. Quote
lewisg1 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 your not going to go very high on those, 20+ plus and the rage should be ok for static jumps. itl be ok until your coming down and you land hard:p Edit: just noticed hes 12 so will be pretty light but itl still not be great with landing softly Quote
MuddyMrTimm Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Just to reiterate... RE-DIRECT!! RE-DIRECT!!! RE-DIRECT!!! enjoi Quote
-Greg Posted October 8, 2009 Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 oh yeh and ma mate is giving me his 2.7 cant rember what make it is lol ;]=] Quote
lewisg1 Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 oh yeh and ma mate is giving me his 2.7 cant rember what make it is lol ;]=] my 2.4 can pick me up in 25mph but anything less and it wont budge me. Im 10 stone if that helps you make a decision but landing still isnt floaty at all. Quote
plummet Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 my suggestion is ask your parents for a big floaty kite for xmas. those kites are too small. and if you go out in enough wind to lift you, you will be punished quickly. Quote
hankster Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 get yourself a bego 400 and you'll be able to jump in light winds and float down but make sure you redirect by that make sure the kite is above your head when coming down.or a peter lynn twister/hq crossfire all fixedbridle kites but get used to them before going onto depower. Quote
crabman Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Not sure if a Bego is the best bet for a total beginner. These kites take a lot of flyer input to get the best out of them. When I got my 600 I already had a fair bit of experience in jumping with both fixed bridle/depowerable/inflatable and the Bego turned out to be in a league of it's own. Demands clean winds and fine control of the brakes to get the lift and - more importantly - keep the lift there when you're airborne. Quote
tsp13 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 you probs want around the 4m mark, but no smaller, and some thing like a rage or blurr or flow. these aren't too lifty kites but im guessing as your only 12 you won't weigh much Quote
crabman Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Not to forget HQ Beamers and PKD Busters for the cheaper, good quality options. This fella here may be slightly dependent on parents' budget (correct me if I'm wrong ) I started out on a 4m BeamerIII and it had plenty lift for just starting doing small jumps; me being a light weight as well at sub 10 stone. At the age of 12 it should more than suffice. I'd leave the notoriously lifty kites until you've got a good few flying and jumping hours under your belt. Quote

efff Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 you must be tiny mate, ill second the beamer range i love my 3m beamer 3 and it still comes out to play when the wind gets mental plus its nearly christmas so tell your mum and dad to get saving then you want to get to the beach its so much better than flying inland you will progress tons Quote
