Lethal !! Today, got hit in the head by one!

Went up to the field (the main national trust area) and it was great weather there. However in the field were about 30 odd Kites buzzing around - 99% were families with single line Kites. Couple of quad kites too.

Got chatting to one guy who was telling me he had with him a 9 metre LEI, that he was about to put up, WITHOUT WEARING A HARNESS (he had none!). Luckily I didnt stick around to watch.

Anyway, walking through the field, some guy with a SINGLE LINE kite somehow flies it horizontally across the field and catches me in the side of the head !

I didnt see the funny side of the matter, but those I was with did. :)

If I had a family (with young children) I'd be putting their life in my hands by spending any time exposed at that location! lol. :(

Peace out. LOL. Anyone else had anything happen there?

I have visited the downs many times and seen kites flying in the area you have described, there seems to be a great family atmosphere about it with children and adults of all ages enjoying themselves flying kites of all descriptions not just power kites. I have never had a problem like the one you describe and would not descibe it as a danger to anyone. Long live kite flying at Dunstable downshttp://forum.kitecrowd.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

tbh single line kites are impossable to steer/controll without experience so on that point i would say that single liners are always going to be lethal...

FYI.. the plasticky lines they have on single line kite.. can cut through decent kite lines anyday... BE WARY! - its sad but true :*( i found out with my first stacker...

Yes, apart from the mishap, the atmosphere was enjoyable! :)

Lots of families there having fun flying kites, children too, and a very nice location!

We sat further down the 'hill' and watched the Gliders being towed up and circling overhead - quite breathtaking - plus to just look out over the valley for MILES, t'was great. :)

Yeah i have seen this at the downs happen rather alot, i am not a fan of flying up there at the mo but its a good day out and the view is cracking, but in the winter it will be great as i am sure its a tad cold for familys to go out, I have seen a few lads up there with Blade 3 10.5 ( i think) and another with a Blade IV 8.5 and they are really great flyers and get some serious air.

i fly there all the time it's my local spot, one of the funniest (to me) things that's happened was someone with a brand new flexi stacker decided to fly where i was landing my kite. he ended up putting his kite in a load of bushes lol took him ages to get it out. i was jumping a blade3 4.9m with a mate on a blade4 6.5m in that little channel right down the hill opposite the new building as the rest of the field was packed with people.

evenings are good as less people are up there.lots of people up there on sunny days about but i don't mind when i've got room to fly and land the kite and people get to see something they normally wouldn't.
