Thought I'd resurrect this thread as I've been doing a bit of pimping myself of late.

Remember this one.

Well, after years of hard riding I acquired it in a very sorry state.

The deck was actually very good. A lot better than I thought it would be after seeing how Slides had suffered.

But the Revos at first sight appeared beyond it.

After a good clean up I filled the bad bits with some metal epoxy putty, sanded and shaped.

Then sprayed up with etch primer, filler primer, paint then clear coat.

The rubber gaiters were shagged as well, so I set about making some new ones.

I took the best one, glued it where it was torn and made a 2 part mold from polyester resin.

Once this was set i got some silicon rubber resin and mixed that and injected it with a syringe into the gap of the mold. Once set the new gaiters just peel out. I did have 3 rejects for one reason or another but finally got a set of four good ones.

Finally drilled the roles in the deck with a holesaw, which was easier than I thought it would be.

First ride in the morning hopefully.

well done andrew i didn't think that board would be revived - you've done a fantastic job there - maybe you could make and sell the internal bushes , i would buy a set of hard ones - the ones in mine are a bit softer than id like , but brilliant job and i hope ya first ride gives ya good wind

Well I need to ride it first to see what mine are like Pete. At first I thought they would be far too soft, but once in they've tightened up quite a bit.

As I said, I was really surprised at how good the deck was. It's only that the red aramid top layer has faded over time that it doesn't look quite as bling as it first did. The only minor repair I had to do was from me slipping with the drill when I had to drill out the bolts holding the Revos on. Then they required heat to get the remaining thread out, and one axle had to have a bearing cut off.

Well, for starters it's a D-ex deck, so made by spike, and its just a case of the colour has faded from the red fibres in the aramid.

I did think about putting another layer on top if it was not stiff enough, but having just spent 3 hrs on it I'm well chuffed.

In fact I can't believe I've wasted nearly ten yrs not riding carbon. It's half the thickness and weight of my old Trampa, doesn't bottom out like the Trampa did on 4 wheel landings, and feels like there's nothing on my feet in jumps, and that's with steel axles.

Pete, the elastomers I've got are a sort of clear greenish colour, and feel really soft, about the same as a very soft longboard wheel, so I'm guessing about 60-65 hardness.

They ride fine, a little soft maybe, but I'll get used to them. In fact, I can't believe how easy I adjusted to riding it. I felt at ease straight away.

plzd you had a good session . i think the design itself is gennerally more steery than a conventional board , and thats not what i was use to . but its good its been ressarected and put in use again

I split a roll of Fabric with spikej (D-ex) . Its Holographic Carbon Fabric 38193H/red from Carr Reinforcements ( 200 gsm Plain Weave Carbon-3k).

I think it is a metallised carbon that has been dyed . After a few years use it was found that the metal wears off exposing the carbon.

You can't get the original red holo finish back unless it is replaced but I have successfully smartened up decks by replacing with plain black prepreg weave.

The Red Holo is mainly a cosmetic finish and I tried various other colours from Carr as well. Pic of sample below, but photo does not do holo effect justice.

Definitely one of the most original shaped boards I have seen and it's turned out very cool!

I'm in the process of shaping a trampa myself, but not anything as individual as yours (bit boring to be honest)

How did you cut it? Those are some pretty tight turns to make with a jigsaw

Posted

yes, used a jigsaw, a lot of blades,a new one about every 6". nothing eats blades like a trampa. sanded the turns with a small flappy wheel in a drill and multi tool on the straights.

started with making a template from white drawing paper, taped it on the board and stared at it for a couple of days, adjusted it, stared again then took it down the shed to cut.

take your time, you only get one shot.

Well this thread has gone a bit quiet! Time for some carbon loveliness and a little upgrade to my board >>IMG_2752.thumb.jpg.a1f512e5b50afa5cdcf220593c495851.jpg

Hopefully getting the carbon base plates soon to complete the set:cool::cool: Many thanks to Paul Hartland @ CKB Boards for his genius and craftsmanship!
