Lars Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 This will be my first [kitesurf] kite. So which one do you guys think I'll get more use out of? I'm probably going to buy a 148x42cm board which is fairly large anyway. If I get a 14 will it ever come out of the bag? Will a 12m be underpowered? Incidentally, I'm looking at Ozone light XCs... ianscott9 Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 I'm in the same situation as you, I bought an 11m waroo about 3 weeks ago, Its just not powerfull enough for my size in normal conditions. As soon as I can get a 13m or 15m in selling it again. I would say the bigger one dude. I have since bought a 9m, so 9 and 13 (or 15) will suit me fine. Quote
kevob Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 it depends what the wind is like at the spot you will be kiting Quote
kevob Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 it depends what the wind is like at the spot you will be kiting i use my 7m the most @ 75kgs Quote
riko_bananas Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 It depends on whether you plan to have a 2 or 3 kite quiver in the future. I would get the 12 if you going to go for a 9m and a 12m for a 2 kite quiver. Or to cover more wind ranges i would get a 15m,10m and a 7m Its up to you how often your going to want to go out. If your a weekend warrior you'll want to have three kites when you have got past the learning stage to ensure you get to go out at the weekends as much as poss. I am 85kg and i have 10.5m, 15m and want to buy a 7m. Quote
Andy-j Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Get a 10m I'd probably go 12m if you can only afford one kite. (in the next 3 months or so) Or if you can buy more than one i'd get a 10 & 14 cos that'll give you a good range for a begginer. Not long left of the summer so prob get some stronger winds coming soon, means your 14 might be too much and you'll be sat on the beach watching everyone out on small kites.. Quote
garykf Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 I'm at 95kg and use a 12m most of the time. If you get something that is pretty quick on the turn you'll generate enough power to get you going. I use a 134 x40 for light winds and 125 x 38 when it picks up a bit so your board choice is just as important. 9m and 7m in the bag also for lively days. Quote
Sav Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Dude with your size and board the 14 should see you going from enough to get the kite flying up to low to mid 20s (knots) Then a 10 will see you up to mid 30s......... And you only need one bar and lines set!! The 09 14m takes more wind much better than last years..... I have been out on the 14 when other guys of similar build have been on 9m......... I just couldn'y be arsed with coming off the water to change down:D and the extra power was managable:) Quote
Lars Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 That's what I thought you told me, Sav. I fear in the winds you talk of I will be hanging on for dear life. You taught me well, but I am not a jedi yet... Think I'll go 14m and give it a shot on most (even light wind) weekends. Quote
