cl100 Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Hi - been flying a set of lines 'Flexifoil Standard 200/100' and there are now wear marks 10 feet up the lines where they cross when flying. The wear is minimal and i know that i need to keep an eye on any line wear as they are crucial to safe flying... However i was just going to ask if anyone has any info on extending the life of the lines.... I.E Wax or and additive that will reduce friction... Thanks Quote
GIBBYDMG Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Don't know if it will actually reduce wear but I coat my lines with beeswax peg lines out ball of said wax in pocket to soften slightly then run ball up lines also helps to shrug off any water not perfect by any means but better than nothing Quote
SnakeEyed Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 what ever you do, make sure you dont get any knots in your lines, i had sum ozone lines for my flexifoil (right strength), got a knot in, and snapped only 1 month after i brought them Quote

If recreational or cruising in a buggy, I would not worry too much. You can reverse the lines top to bottom though so that the wear is in two places instead of one. I've run some lines like that for ages with no problems. Keep them rinsed and free of sand, salt and dirt though as this makes them wear more. If you are doing buggy jumps or inverts on a board, err on the safe side though. Steve. Quote

That's exactly what I was going to say. I know my sport kiting buddies occassionally spray their lines with silicone or run a silicone rag applictor up the lines like the beeswax selection. They do this when the lines get fuzzy to allow more wraps. It adds nothing to the strength but it will make your lines smoother and create a bit less friction when twisted. Quote
cl100 Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 Thanks for the replys. Gonna swap line ends and try what has been advised. I also use the lines on my BIV 4.9 for jumpin so will be keepin an eye on them. No buggy yet but it will come . . . . . . Quote
