koma Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Is this the same mystery spot that was mentioned a little while ago? Looks like it's got some pretty spectacular potential. Quote
pils Posted May 16, 2010 Author Report Posted May 16, 2010 yer it is .like a half day walking around it all , it sould work in all wind directions ,we will kite soon,we have kited about half a K from it on a off shore wind too the east off it all or jacks Island as we have named the three main islands lol ....it was super flat water. And the tide was just sarting to come in.....with about 5knt water flow coming in between the islands, good for light winds . Quote
koma Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Just looking at it again on the GMaps, that place is huuuuge! I assume the weird banding on some area's on the maps are just seaweed layers, just like in your photo's. Might be worth checking out next time the wind is on... speaking of which, this weekend looks cranking. Just a heads up that if my research is correct that this is actually a DoD site, and i quote... "It is currently used by the Department of Defence to store armaments." It's also apparently "an internationally significant wetland and waterfowl habitat" as well as "significance for the local Wathaurong people." Have you ever met anyone on your adventures out there? They might not be so friendly. Quote
pils Posted May 16, 2010 Author Report Posted May 16, 2010 its a long way from pint wilson pier, didnt see any boombs, bird wiatchers boxes on the far side and cars, thought they might be bird people on a nice sunny windless day.next time it will be windy cold and im not expecting too see them there. koma Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Yeah, when it's blowing i doubt you'll see anyone else out there. The site is definitely listed separately from Point Wilson, but i won't go as far as to mention it's name in here. A little update... it appears the site is not a DoD site, but it's apparently a significant winter migratory bird area. It's managed by Parks Vic, but a few other bodies and comes into mention in a few documents involving international treaties... but aside from that it looks alright. From what i was reading the water level varies between completely dry at low tide, through to ~1.2m at high tide. Quote
pils Posted May 26, 2010 Author Report Posted May 26, 2010 Get your fins off boys !!!!!! ,got to kite the islands too day for the first time ,johny, noah and me .the wind was a bit light on the way there but it picked up on the way home.and johny saw a big black fin.............a good K off shore Quote
Goz Posted June 5, 2010 Report Posted June 5, 2010 Bloody Hell Andre next time you post a whole heap of photos can you use fotosizer or something to reduce the size of the photo files before uploading them. It will take less time to upload them to the site and alot less time for people viewing your post. At just over 107MB for 1 post I think you may hold the record for the largest single post in terms of file size in XK's history. Quote
pils Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 sorry Goz for the inconvenience, there is over 100 pic ,so just the first 50 made it on lol Quote
