BenL Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Im thinking of getting a sting 2.4m for gusty days when my blade is to much to handle- anyone had a play with one of these? Im looking for something to pull me around a bit in high winds, and to let my girlfriend have a go with on calmer days, and the sting seems like a good and fairly cheap option Cheers, Ben Quote
android125 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I have a sting 2.4 .....it was my 1st kite and I have progressed a bit now so I hardly ever fly it now. Its a good 1st kite for someone but it would be very tame for an experienced kiter. Quote
Cyprino Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 They're fantastic little kites, they seem to be almost bomb-proof too I was at a beach recently and there was someone flying one. By flying, I mean 50% flight 50% crashing and bouncing off the floor! They are tame for experience riders because they don't generate the lift/pull of stuff like the Blade/Rage/Blurr But for high wind days they're fine! Just make sure to upgrade the lines & handles for any serious high wind stuff - they come with lighter lines and what a friend of mine calls "toy handles", because they're thinner and smaller than the standard flexi ones They do give you quite good cramp in your fingers after 20 mins or so in high winds! I have to agree with Cyprino. So yes they are a beginners kite and probably a bit more pricey than the average ones. But for an experienced kiter in high winds they are great fun. You would never take it as a serious kite but who cares when your out with a big grin on your face and everyone else has packed up because it's too windy. As Cyprino says, change the handles and lines, they won't last 5 minutes. You will find you are looping the kite a lot so beware of rubbing lines too. I keep a 1.7m in my bag for those mad days. It's managed to tug me and a flexibug to 38mph in 35mph winds before. Quote
kiteboarder09 Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 i have a sting 2.4 a few small pin point holes but still flys very well, with lines and handles i only wont a £100 for it Quote
Fred53 Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 i flew one the other day and they are really nice. they are really stable and they even get going in little wind. I'd love to try one in really high winds Quote
mikeymustard Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 but of course they're not particularly cheap, and by the time you've upgraded the lines and handles you might as well have bought an imp quattro flow, or similar. I'm not saying the sting's a bad kite, cos it's not - just not a well-priced kite. And while we're on the subject, where does the 3.3 sting come in the scheme of kitey things? Does it come with toy lines and handles too? Quote
skidmarks Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 a friends just put a 1.7 up for sale in punk brand new more or less 100 quid good buy Quote

Yep I'm afraid it does mickymustard and agree they are not well priced for a beginners kite with as you say wee lines and toy handles I use mine as a high wind buggy engine and put it on proper handles and lines but if I'm up the park static then it's the wee ones and the toy handles works just as well Quote
