MadMan1520 Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I was out today flying at the locsl spot, the same one ive been flying at scince i started flying about 7/8 years ago, and for the FIRST time, i have actually have a woman (albeit an english (no offence) one) phone the police for me flying. She claims i was flying too close (45feet) to her kids. I am absolutelly shocked at how someone could deem 45feet as flying too close. If she had just asked me to move back, i would have, but it was the fact that on one run i got: "Get the f**k away from my kids, ill phone the police, i know the law!" and a police van showed up 5min later...... plummet Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 were the kits down wind? to the side? or what? was your kite flying over their heads? were you doing massive airs scaring the shize out of them? 45 feet is pretty close thats 15 meters. shorter than your kites lines. kids can do some pretty eratic stuff your better off to be 45 meters away. Dubs Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Ye CeeJay, an imigrant. (a bad one btw, not the nice helpful ones that actually work and contribute to the economyand dont leach off it) Quote
MadMan1520 Posted August 4, 2008 Author Report Posted August 4, 2008 not really, i mean i was just cruising, i got there first, she started off like 100m downwind, then worked her way backward until i didn't even have the room to land. Quote
MadMan1520 Posted August 4, 2008 Author Report Posted August 4, 2008 they just told me to move up the field a bit, if she had asked me that herself(nicely) i would have Quote

If they have never seen a traction kite before (that is the case often) then they may well have been very scared by what you were doing, the kites look MASSIVE to non kiters (your sig says you have a 13m and a 17m) Down are way its a big no no overflying the public on the beach, and the public always have right of way over us. ...but she could of asked you to move instead of calling the fuzz, but then she may have been too scared to come over. think of it from her point of view. GIBBYDMG Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 ^^^ I'm with Craig on this one 45ft is far too close to anyone not engaged in the same activity, should maybe have seen it coming my son. I also noticed that you said you were there first. Doesn't matter she and her children have every right to be there it's attitudes like this that gets the polis called and then bans start to appear, and to my knowledge there are none in Jockland at the moment. So maybe have a little think about it, we all have the same problems with non kiteing public they can be a pain in the ar&e but that's life. Gibby!!! Quote
MadMan1520 Posted August 5, 2008 Author Report Posted August 5, 2008 well, if she was too scared to ask, why did she shout abuse, and the fact that she started 200m away then slowly started to box me into a corner that i couldnt get out of because of her kids lines, then i get the blame... Quote
craig.w1599968638 Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 so.... they were flying kites as well? single liners?...walking backwards pulling tugging at the kite to get it up? ...which ended up with you in the corner? if you been flying 7/8 years (wish i started kiting when you were 8!) could you not of flown around them and got out the way down wind somewhere? Public can be a nightmare, just avoid them and these things wont happen. Quote
MadMan1520 Posted August 5, 2008 Author Report Posted August 5, 2008 two line stunt kites, whipping all over the place so i couldnt even move or land Quote
craig.w1599968638 Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 best just to move when it happens like that, we get it at the Ho! ...jonny holiday comes and plonks his wind break, wife and 2.4 kids right in the middle of the tracks you been running for the last 2 hours when the rest of the beach is empty!.....just cause he can, we cant do anything so just move off somewhere else. It does sound like this ***** was being a ***** you were there first and they encroached on your spot. i hope you pointed this out to the fuzz. in saying all that is there is an empty spot on the beach somewhere else its pretty easy to zip over there and change spots. MadMan1520 Posted August 5, 2008 Author Report Posted August 5, 2008 in saying all that is there is an empty spot on the beach somewhere else its pretty easy to zip over there and change spots. not when youve got two kites, two pumps, two bar/lines, two large kitbags, a backpack etc. etc. Quote
andrewjohn Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 So you've got two kite bags and a back pack. Ditch the back pack, share that stuff with your kite bags. Two bags, not hard to move. It's really not worth arguing the toss when people encrouch on your spot. I've often had other flyers, normally newbies, encrouching on the tracks i've left when I'm first on the beach, cos they think it's the place to fly, or nob heads just trying to show off. I just move somewhere else. Quote
