    MBS All Terrain Longboard

I treated myself to a new board... the MBS all terrain longboard.  These are brand new out from the USA by MBS who are known for their mountain boards.  Where I live over summer we get nasty cat eye thorns that seem to grow everywhere so it was great to get hold of a board and not have to worry about pneumatic tyres.

I've had the chance to take the board out on a number of surfaces and given they are new out thought I'd give my impressions.

Overall I'm impressed with the board.  Riding it is like going from the old 26" mountain bikes onto the 29ers.  You just feel like you can roll over anything.  The board easily handles uneven footpaths, road surfaces and loose stone that would stop an ordinary skateboard.  I've taken it down a few grassy slopes and as long as the grass is pretty low, and the ground hard packed then it goes great.

If kiting strapless is your thing then this board would be fine on any hard packed surface.

In terms of just general cruising the board is much easier to push than a standard mountain board.  On a road surface made from rock rather than bitumen there is much more vibration through your feet than you get with pneumatic tyres.  Off road the vibration disappears.  The board is very much at home rolling over mown tufts of grass on hard packed soil, which is what many of our local playing fields become over summer.

On smooth surfaces like concrete the board makes a pretty cool noise through the tyres due to the tread pattern. The board has got decent bearings in it so it rolls smooth and far.

I found the board length comfortable and build quality high as you expect with an MBS board.

Some pics of the board are below including size comparison between standard skateboard and MBS mountain board so you can see the difference.

Great write up. Glad to see a review on this. I see the trucks are reverse kingpin. 190mm is larger than standard longboard most likely duet to the larger wheels?  That should also help with turning. How did the trucks feel?  Carvy or more rigid?

I haven't played around with tightening or loosening off the trucks, I just ran them as they came from the factory which felt perfect for my weight and riding style.  The trucks were a firm enough ride to be stable on a hill that I've had the death wobbles happen on other boards.  At the same time you can carve.  With the tread it wouldn't be good for sliding unless it was a loose or slippery surface.

Already XT wheels plus flex déck gives mountainboard like

My hope is for a 110 mm shark wheel, my 70 mm skark Also work great on those paths     but faster on asphalt than XT wheels wich are heavy..

A shark wheel with sinusoide in his shape has the offroad ability of a bigger skateboard wheel

70 mm shark overperform largely my kryptonic 85 mm on Paths and bad asphalt , not in  speed but  eating obstacles like stones much easier

110 mm shark Wheel would be fantastic

I bought the atl today.  Went paddling in  forest paths, it don t roll when the ground is soft because of rain like today     a mountainboard would do it

on hard paths i could paddle very Well.

On thé road i could pump the longboard like a normal longboard    it s a big advantage toward a mountainboard

Good timing with your question.  I actually took it out yesterday for a spin at one of our local sporting grounds. I flew it with a 5m on handles.

Overall I was pretty happy with the board.  The field I used it on isn't overly watered so its got grass but the ground under is pretty firm.  I found the drop deck of the board was really useful as you could push your foot hard up against the drop which makes up for it not having footstraps. The board was well mannered and stable.  The ride is faily low to the ground compared with a standard mountain board.

This isn't a board that you are going to jump with (I'm sure though some better landboarders than me could) but for back and forth cruising its quite ideal.

The good part for me especially this time of year is I don't have to worry about getting punctured tyres.

I bought mine after i burst my tire twice in a week. Thé danger of kiting is to explod thé bearings in holes  !   Hope to sée atl kite vidéos soon
