    Eolo Radsail Buggy

This is a follow up of a review I wrote on this buggy a couple of weeks ago...

I purchased this buggy 4 weeks ago and my initial thoughts have been great, low centre of gravity, packs away quickly etc however after using it some problems have quickly surfaced.
I have used it on my local beach for the several times both on the beach and on the grass dunes above. I have discovered yesterday that all 4 rear wheel bearings are disinegrating.
Each time I have used the buggy I have been in it has been for around 30mins max so after about 4 hours total solid use the bearings are shot. Hmmm!

Is this because I am too heavy ?, they state 110kg max weight and I am a slim 88kg!! So no joy there!

    So what causes this???

I have discovered that the problem lies in the bolts that act as axles. Even using thread paste or tape it is impossible to keep the bolts tight!!! Not good!!!

I am costantly tightening these up, every time out, and although its always a good idea to check your axles before a run, this is a bit much!
You can only do them up finger tight and then 1 quarter turn!
To do them up tighter would stop the wheels from spinning. Consequently they undo in motion and the vibration to the wheels is what is destroying the bearings.
I tried 15mm flat washers each side of the bearing but again if the bolt is too tight it impeded the bearing!

I dont consider 4 hours of good use to be a good sign for a set of bearings... I may get some more use if I chance it but once they go, they go and god forbid they go at speed!

One other problem is that as the seat is so close to the ground (and I cant see how any adjustment is possible as it would only make you closer to the ground)

They advertise the seat has quote "It has 7 tensors to adjust the seat to different lengths and heights."

However as I mentioned I do not see how this is actually adjustable. Mine is all as tight as i can get it and my backside still sits an inch and a half off the deck!

An inch and a half!!! And while this makes for an incredibly stable ride its not good if the ground is anything less than PERFECTLY flat!

To the degree it has already worn a small hole in the bottom of the seat as I come in contact with the ground so much. any roughish or uneven ground is not very usable. In comparisson to the flexifoil/Libre/Peter Lynn etc buggies this bugggy has about 4 inches less ground clearance than any of these other buggies, and no belly pan. To make one would mean you were constantly beaching yourself!

A larger set of tyres would raise the height of the buggy, or a different seat design, one problem instantly solved. If you ride ONLY beaches, this problem livable with.

The biggest problem is the rear wheels. I have emailed Radsail a copy of this review but have yet to hear...

In conclusion my initial excitement for this buggy has dissapated somewhat as this has the potential for being an excellent buggy but they will HAVE to address these problems and soon, and unless they do they will have a whole heap of unhappy people on their case, which would be a shame as their products have so far been exceptionally good.

Good review BlindJP. I also have the same problems with my Radbuggy. - - - Axel bolts needing tightening, everytime out. - Seat to low. I've not had trouble with my bearings yet, as clened them (hot oil) and repacked them with marine grease. The low seat heigh is a design flaw .. believe its due to the bow that develops on the rear axel when loaded (I'm silimilar weight to you). I'm going to try and cure it by filling the rear axel with Fiberglass resin this weekend, and will let you know if this helps ... Other than that its biger wheels for me :

OK, had a responce from Radsaiol regarding this buggy. See the other review update on this buggy. They are also being good enough to send me new axle bolts and bearings. Solutions... The buggy I have is on 05 buggy, seems like Andya also has a 05 model. Apparently they have now made the side rails higher so the ground clearance is better, although I personally think the seat is more of a problem than the siderails! My personal solution to the ride height has been to buy a Peter Lynn seat,

I have recently added washers to the rear wheels/axles in the form on bolt head/spring washer/flat washer(thin)/bearing - wheel - bearing/large thick flat washer/spring washer. this allows enough torque to be put on the bolt for thread lock to be applied and work. With regards to the seat being too low, I found a Petr Lynn Comp seat on ebay new for a tenner, it fits and gives an extra 5 inches of ground clearance. Will post to say how the buggy handles with this seat as it will obviously make the COG higher.

I have an 06 model buggy on which the axle bolts kept coming loose so I added flat washers and spring (split) washers under the bolt head and have had no problems since. I had problems with the tubless tires going down but had them sealed by 'etyres.co.uk' when they changed one of my car tyres and never had a blow out since!

the radsail buggy is only good if your weight is less than 65 kilograms... otherwise it will frack up like no other....
