  1. I'm reasonably sure the 2010 cult didn't have a pulley on the wingtip like the diagram shows. Are the pulleys still running freely? As a solution to the bar pressure, do you have a stopper on the depower line that you can rest the bar against whilst cruising?
  2. 6. If you go with something non kite specific it'll work fine, just make sure it's pretty strong on the deck so you don't put your heels through it after a couple of hours. Pop outs like the Bic boards are cheap and fairly indestructible, whatever you get you'll figure out how to ride. Time on the water is what you need.
  7. Size doesn't make any difference. You edge the board and fly the kite to control your speed and direction just like a twin tip. A slightly bigger board will make learning to gybe easier. As a rough rule pick a board that's about the same height as you and get on with it... My only tip for riding would be to move your back foot forward of where the back strap is to go upwind efficiently, don't be dragging the tail through the water!
  8. I think its high time full length 'kite pants' had a revival - and not even in a retro-cool/ironic way either... if you're going to fly a huge brightly coloured kite in a public place you might as well don your finest duds and go the full nine
  9. Airush razor... What size are you after?
  10. Get thee unto a good kite shop and try some harnesses on and have a hang in them... The right place for a waist harness is between hips an ribs, so the shaping of the harness fits into the curve of your lower back. Shouldn't be any big gaps at the top or bottom of the harness. After that it's a personal choice as to stiffness v flexibility, grip to hold it in place v slip to allow it to rotate a bit. Go for soft edges so it doesn't rub you up. Have a look at the shape of the hook, some retain the chicken loop my better than others, although this makes it a little harder to hook in and out.
  11. There's a current foreign office warning to tourists in the South Sinai area, but it doesn't include sharm el sheik airport or any of the beach resorts in the nabq Bay Area, which have extra security.... We are off to the jaz Mirabel at the start of march. Bring on the sunshine!
  12. Sold pending payment
  13. Took some more pis of this one. It's inside cos its phishing down out there! Pics over on Facebook.
  14. Dead onshore wind and a shore dump is never that nice. I think I'd be looking to use the different angles of the coast line to find a spot which gives you more of an angle to get off the beach. As has been said before, spend a moment just watching the waves and get the timing before you go for your board start. Let one break and try to start before it pulls back out. Another thing to bear in mind is that if you are driving from London, you have the choice of a broad stretch of coast and high tide won't be the same time everywhere, so you can choose a spot for the height of the tide when you want to kite. Spring tides with high high tides and low low tides roll into Neap tides, where the range is less extreme, and back every couple of weeks. The spring highs occur at the same time of day for a given location and this doesn't change. Check out what time of day the spring high tides occur for a given beach so you can avoid them if it doesn't work there. For instance, here at Calshot our spring high tides happen about midday (choppy and rough on the front), but at Portland spring tides give a low at midday (shallow, flat and lush). The opposite is the case with neap tides a week later, we get a midday low water at Calshot (perfect lagoons) but Portland would be high tide in the middle of the day (deep water/offshore). If the wind is south west it would work in both spots, so we would pick where to go based on the tide, neaps for calshot and springs for Portland. Grab the tide tables for the spots you use most and mark them up with the best days to be there for the tide. Then you can look at the wind and go, OK it works in this wind direction, but I need to be here in the morning or whatever for the tide. Sorted. Another thing is to consider the direction of the water flow at different tide states. If you kite somewhere like Avon or Exmouth, the flow of water can sometimes make or break whether you can kite there. At mid tide halfway between high and low water the tide is generally flowing it's strongest. If the water flow is in the same direction as the wind it becomes a pita to stay upwind. The opposite is true if you get wind against the current and it's like a magic carpet holding you upwind. If you're into surfing, it's doubly important to watch the tide times and the heights. Many waves only work when the water is a certain depth over the reef or sand bar. Swell direction and size is also critical to many waves, magic seaweed is a good resource or get the storm rider guide. It takes time to work out the best tides and directions for different spots, and local knowledge is key so get talking to kiters, windsurfers, surfers etc and glean what you can from them. Hope some of this is useful and makes sense? Dan
  15. For sale Airush VXR 15m. Bought in October 2012. Used for the light wind sessions through summer 2013. Always stored dry so no colour run or chalking on the canopy. Never used on a sandy beach, so all the pulleys and bridles are fine. There is a self adhesive patch over a nick on the canopy - I reckon this probably happened when it was turned over on the beach - see the pictures. Great light wind, jumping, hangtime freeride kite on a twin tip. Works brilliantly with the Sector! One of the most efficient, high aspect kites available. Flies on a 4 line bar. The kite has loops to go on the front lines and knots to go onto the back lines. Works great on a slingshot compstick bas as well as the Airush bars. I'm looking for £450 ono. If you have any questions or you want to come over to Calshot and have a look, just drop me a PM. This is a private sale and not through 24-7 Boardsports, although you can give me a call there if you want on 02380 894000. Thanks Dan Patch on canopy. The nick is in the middle of this patch and doesn't extend to the mark cloth. Wider shot of the patch so you can see how big it is.
  16. At an mistral hot are the warmest winter boots. 6mm, full plush lining, smooth skin foot cookers. Bit thick with straps maybe but nice strapless. Gloves are a super personal thing I find... The thinnest are the best, but if it's proper parky out I have a set of lobster claw ones from Othree down at Portland, technically a dive glove I think but I don't get cold in them. I think the most important thing is to not let yourself get cold before you get on the water. Put ya suit on in the warm and wear gloves and a hat while your setting up. If I get on the water feeling warm enough I have a much better session than if I'm cold and trying to warm up. Dan
  17. Continuing the foil kite clear out.... my Bego 600 needs to find a new home with someone who will take it out and enjoy it! For anyone who doesn't know the Bego it's a 6m high(ish) aspect 4 line fixed bridle kite. It takes a bit of kite skill to get the most out of it, but it's a good un. Comes complete with ozone 300 kg lines and long handles. Pulley power rings on there already. Great fun in a buggy or on a board. Last time I used it was to go snow kiting! Great condition, always stored dry and clean. It's in a very scruffy old blade 2 bag, but you don't fly the bag do you... There are some pics over here on Facebook. £150 posted in uk
  18. Hey, I found this little beaut in the cupboard when I was having a clear out! I've not been bugging for a few years, but it's been dry stored in its bag out of the light and it's in great condition, no sand, no stains. Kite only. Super fast buggy engine for those big days. £80 posted. Pics are here on Facebook
  19. Any shop with an ozone account can order you one, but you will have to wait for it to be made, and it's unlikely that they will just want to order a bladder in from Vietnam, so you might want to ask when their next ozone order is going in. Personally, I'd get an airtime bladder and get it fixed and back on the water. Much quicker. Dan
  20. One from Friday's sesh...
  21. Try some on, get one that fits properly and doesn't dig in or ride up when you hang in it. We're all different so what suits me might suck for you. Main thing is to get one and get on the water, cos that's the only way to get better Aloha Dan 24-7
  22. Hey Sue, Are you going on Rob's trip to El Medano in March? Dan
  23. Leave the foot straps off. It's a light wind toy so you don't need straps. They just get in the way and stop you putting your feet where you need them for ollies, kick flips, ole spins, butter slides and anything else you might want to try! The shape looks fun, just wax it up. You don't need lots of rocker either, just a bit on the nose to stop it catching. You can steam a curve into marine ply but it's a bit of a variable technique... Better to fix the rocker with a bit of glass, but honestly that's just overkill on a ply board. It'll get some rocker as you start riding it. Very satisfying to ride something you made, have fun
  24. Take it back to the shop you got it from... Dom & the guys at F-One in the UK have been great at sorting out any issues like that. Dan
