Hunstanton : What happened to the Hub?
littlemisssammy replied to littlemisssammy's topic in Kite Surfing
Also, I need to renew my insurance. I see through BKSA that for an extra fiver you can get The Hub specific insurance... if I remember rightly that means you have membership to the hub? Is it worth donig that instead of the standard one? -
Hi I have been meaning to try and meet some people up at Hunstanton and there used to be a website called the Hub for locals, it seems to have disapeared! My boyfriend and I are planning a week of kitesurfing from next weekend, we live in Cambridge so we are going to camp up there. It would be nice to meet some people as we havent kitesurfed in a year and even then we were not very good!!! If anyone is around it would be cool to meet up and get a few tips! Sam

I have enough experience to know that I need about 100m either side of me just incase I bail badly!!! That seebreeze place looks like accomodation? Is there any teaching going on there? Thanks!

Hi, I did a kitesurfing course last year abroad and got just about up on the board! Now I want to fly in the UK but I am aware of the danger of getting kitesurfing banned at almost all beaches is enough to turn most reasonable people into newbie haters!!! I want to go to North Devon possibly Westward Ho or Woolcombe and I thought it would be a good idea to get a refresher lesson just for a day. I have looked on the internet but I cant find any schools. Can you recommend any in this area? Thanks!!! Sam

Hi Im very sadly having to sell my Peter Lynn Buggy I am moving house and dont have a garage. Its going for £150.00 if anyone is interested please let me know and I can get a photo for you. It could be an ideal Christmas pressie for someone. I would prefer pick up (in Cambridge) but I can break it down and send it out if you are far away. Thanks! Sam

Just bought a Ocean Rodeo One, the build quality is really good, I really like the depower system, its down by your harness rather than above the bar. Not that I have much experience, but it suits me!!!
-
Wow! Thanks so much for all the advice!!!! Really, its so appreciated, I love this forum! I think the problem was trying to do everything at once, its only the 2nd time I had flown the kite and was just getting a bit excited. I took stock and went out on Sunday, just on the beach, took the time to try and control the kite, doing small figures of 8, then trying to dive it at both sides of the window. Also practised holding the kite at one side still as I would have to when getting the board on. I was really pleased as the kite was amazing, I could control it really well and played alot with the depower cleat to adjust the power. The only thing I can think is that on Sunday it was windier and the wind was clean off the sea. On Saturday it was fairly light and the wind was coming down off a big hill, so could have been pretty churned up. So Im really pleased now, and with all your advice, I think I can get to the next stage which is getting the board on and keeping constant power, this is something I couldnt really do on land but Im hoping will be easier on the water. Thanks again! Sam

This is what I cant do I try and dip it down into power but it doest turn enough so just travels straight across window

We were out in about 10 knots at the lowest yesterday, average was about 12-13knots. There was enough grunt to pull us along, easily, just we couldnt get the kite turn in a small enough arc. You would have the kite at 12, do one swoop, as tight as you could to get you up, and the kite would fly almost to the edge of the window in one swoop! So the power from the swoop would pull you sideway rather than fwd. And for all the trying we could never get it to fly with the leading edge facing the water, as to work the window.

Hi, Strangely I wrote a big long post yesterday and it has dissapeared! Basically the problem is I have just started out and bought a Ocean Rodeo One as I learnt on XBow... When we learnt to get up on the board we had to bring the kite to 11 o clock then dip it straight down into the power with leading edge facing the water, then back up to 12 to get up on the board (fairly light winds!) so I have been trying to fly the One... its OK doing small figs of 8, much better without the 3m extention lines so its just on 21m lines. As soon as I try to bring it down like the xbow it wont respond, flys to the other side right to the edge of the water and hovers... I pull it as much as I can to get it back over but generally it falls in the water. I learnt on 9M and this is a 12M, I expected it to be slower but I cant see how Im ever going to get up on the board if I cant turn the 12M. I have found its most responsive if I power it up in the turns and have med bar pressure when its flying straight. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks!

I agree, PKS are wicked! I wanted a RED Ocean Rodeo One 12M, but they didnt have any in stock. They placed an order for one for me but it was going to be a week or so for delivery, I told them I was keen to get out on the water and they lent me their Demo kite until mine arrives! Mine has now arrived at the shop so once I recieve it, they will arrange to pick up the demo kite free of charge!!! Now thats what I call service. Colin was really friendly and gave me loads of advice. Very happy Customer!!!

Hmm, I do like my eyes in my head! Thanks for the info, it does seem like alot of the older boards have this style but none of the new ones ! Im 70kg, have bought a ocean rodeo one, but having trouble finding a board! Im guessing I need something around 140 - 150cm, and there is nothing going. Only 125 - 130 or 180! Just going to have to keep looking :0) Thanks again!
-
Hi, Im just trying to get myself my first board, and a lot of the second hand ones seem to be wake style, ie they have 2 points instead of a rounded edge at both ends. Can anyone explain what is this shape for? What are the characteristics? Would it be OK for learning on? Thanks!
-
Funny, I was going to ask the same question! Any comments anyone?
-
Thanks for all the replies, I think... BOW IS THE WAY TO GO!!!!
-
Oooh I didnt realise the board was so important for the wind, I just thought start with a big board and then get smaller as get better! Right, so what size board? 160cm? Thanks for the advice by the way I have been trawling forums all night!!!
-
Also, if I choose a Ckite, what size should I go for, if I am only to have 1 kite?!
-
Thanks for the replys, I hear what you are saying, and maybe it is possible to get a good deal on a bow. If I do go for a C kite are there any that are good for beginners? As for the Venoms, they are different again arent they? Is it possible to relaunch them from the water?
-
Hi, My boyfriend and I have recently had some kitesurfing tuition and just about got to the stage of getting up on the board and going along for a 10 seconds or so! Great fun! We learnt on Cabrina Crossbow and Switchblades, got on well with them and they were not too scary. Since being back I have realised that this "bow"kite design is rather new and great for learning due to the safety. So I have been looking at getting a 12m as apparently this gives me the best wind range (We are both about 11.5 stone). However, I have quickly realised how expensive it will be to by one and I know its a lot cheaper to pick up a second hand C-kite. SO.....! Are C kites really much harder to learn on? Is the wind range really a lot smaller? If its just going to hurt me or not let me go out half the time, then I will probably invest in a bow, but just trying to justify it at the moment!!! If a C-kite wouldnt be too bad to learn on, can anyone recommend a good one for beginners? I am guessing a low - med aspect ratio?! Thanks!!!
