ALL ION OWNERS (bar quick release problems)
elphinston replied to byronsherrard's topic in Kite Surfing
I was out on a 9m ion on sunday and the same happened to me! I suddenly was flying it un hooked fully powered in 25 -30 knots! so i tried to do a controlled crash (i failed) so i could reset the c loop. the kite got tumbled by some waves and when i could see it between waves it looked in a right mess, I gave a good yank on a line and the thing launched perfectly, i was quite impressed with the kite but the c loop does seem very easy to accidently release. P.s I got a glimpse of an ion 2 proto 15m in action, it looked very bow like, i thought it was a OR ONE at first. I guess they are trying to improve the lower end of the bigger sizes next time around. no more info than that sorry. -
Please forgive me for the late reply The din range is 4-12 hope thats helpful

To be honest i couldnt tell you as im not a surfer and have never surfed without a kite! And the surfing i have done with a kite was quite pathetic! Mainly i have been using it on flatish water to learn all the basics before i go any were near a wave. But i aspire to greater things one day The 6ft fish seems a good size for medium to high winds I was out in 30 knts the other day with my 10 Venom having a total blast, I sort of regret not getting somthing a bit bigger for lighter winds as im a 14 1/2 stone lump! I would think the 6'7" would be fine for messing about on. sorry i cant be more of a help

Engaged to be! but not for much longer at this rate if i keep bringing back wet sandy kites and stinking damp kiting gear and skiving of work to go kiting! Does spraying the kite with water repellent work, is it safe to use on the kite fabric? anyone know? I will use some wax on the new bit of rope, good bit of advice. P.S I really need a garage!!

I bought a NSP 6ft fish earlier in the year for light winds, ( i was out in 30 knts on wednesday riding strapless) its a pop out board but i dont care, its strong and bomb proof for kiting. Ive had more fun on this than on my TT. I would recommend using a surfboard to anyone. It is great fun. Its worth the effort and it feels so good when you can do powered carves at speed and through in a foot switch at the end of a turn and ride off on heel side. I cant wait to start riding it in some waves. learn to gybe in flat water to start with. The secret to gybing a surfboard with a kite is speed. Speed = stability. I do my foot switch once im on toeside and im edging hard as digging in the edge also seems to add some stability to the board , this technique works fine for me as i dont use foot straps, so it might be a bit different with them. The only advice i can give is get out there and pratice, its very satisfying once you get it dialed

Hi Sticky, (im guessing Nathen). I dont have any clothe airers, I needed to dry the in side of the kite as it was wet and i didnt want to store it wet ( i try and allways look after my kites ) So i decided to inflate the kite with an old fan. To support the centre of the kite i inserted a old paint roller pole through the deflate zip and zipped it up. The kite dried out just fine. All i had to do was cope with the whinging from the Mrs when she got home and was confronted with an inflated partially wet kite taking over the flat! I would have just flyed it dry but due to the snapped rope that wasnt possible (i will carry a spare now). The rope snapped due to it being worn. I have now got a nice piece of bright yellow rope from the chandlers with a breaking strain of 1100 kgs ( that should be strong enough!) I have flown the V in rain, but not heavy rain, if there is enough wind the rain doesnt make much difference, the kite does feel a bit slower when its wet though. Has anyone sprayed a twinskin with tent or fabric waterproofer, does this work?

Well my rope that goes through the bar snapped today while kiting down the south coast! And for the first time in six months it dropped it in the drink! There so stable they rarely crash! (or im not trying hard enough!) Anyway this left me with a dilemma. How am i going to dry in out in a small first floor London flat with no garden!? Well I came up by doing this (see attached photos).Any one else have to do the similar due to the lack of space?

Hi, Ive left if very late as im leaving at 4am for Calais tomorrow morning, but could any one tell me please if kitesurfing at les hemmes is any good? if so any advice on any hazards etc would be good. From my research so far i get the impression that it will take a long walk to find the sea. If this is the case, can anyone recommend another flying site close to Calais that is good for kitesurfing. Many thanks

Lake Silvaplana, Switzerland - any info please.
elphinston replied to elphinston's topic in Kite Surfing
Thanks for that. I will check it out. -
Can anyone help me please? I,ve been looking for kiting spots near Bregenz in Austria and have been told that Lake Silivaplana neart St Moritz, Switzerland (2hour drive from Bregenz)is a good place to kiteboard. There seems to have been large kiting events held there in the passed. Has anyone been there and kiteboarded recently. Helpful info about the wind conditions I should expect in late July would be helpful. Also any launching locations and any local restrictions/ safety advice would be good aswell. Thanks

As soon as I can scan my trannies I will try and post the rest of them on the Kitefantasic.com gallery. Thanks to Geir, Einar and Jeff for all their hard work, the trip was great fun. Regards Jason

Yep your right I wouldnt want my skis to be resticted to just kiting, they need to be able to perform well when I want to ski back down the mountain, thanks for the feedback
