I haven't been kiting long and did my first jump a couple of weeks ago in the very high winds we had. I hadn't been out in that much wind yet and I think I under-estimated how fast it was blowing. There was nobody else at Blackheath, but I guess that was beacuase it was a weak day morning.
I put up my 4m Buster and having read that they don't have much lift thought that if I was ever going to get a jump out of it, it would be then. Played around for a minute or two to make sure I could control it (only just actually) and then put it up into the power from low down. I think I got about 5 feet or so up, not quite head hight, but I got pulled a long, long way forward very fast. I estimate around 35 to 45 feet (no witnesses to tell me). I know it doesn't sound much compared to some people who have being doing this for a while, but it serrioulsy sh@t me up. Exilherating as hell though. You could definitely feel the buster wanted to go forward rather than up though and this made for a fairly hard landing - I'm about 14 or 15 stone.
I decided the wind was a bit much and put the buster away shortly after and got out my LD 1.5 and there was enough wind to get me moving on my mountainboard (with a bit of work) - so got my first few runs of landboarding in, which was ace.
Anyway great day, but it proved to me I need an in between size kite, maybe a small blade (and obviously a bigger one for lower wind days:eek: )
