Hey, where in the States can you get the same type of quality repair? I was out at the beach on the 4th of July and set my kite down so i could rest. Then some d!ck breath drove behind our camp and got the handles tangeled under his axel, I had to drive about 2 miles to catch up to him because he did not stop when we were yelling at him. well at the time i did not know but the dragging caused 2 tears about 6 inches long along the seams. I took it to some local fellow who i hear does good work but he charged me $110. u.s dollars to repair, it seemed like a 30 min job to me. he charged me at $35. an hour. i have not picked up the kite yet but he called and said that the repair was quite good. would i have spent as much sending in to flexi directly?

actualy power rings fit over the brake lines. what they do is that they slightly break the kite to the side you are turning so what hapens is that more than turning, the kite spins on its axis making the turn faster. of corse, the faster the kite flys, the more power it builds. it will not make a 4.9 for example seem like a 6.0 or anything like that. its just like using your brakes to turn the kite but without deflating the kite slightly while doing that.

thanks dudes, you guys gave me a basic understanding to what i know absoulutely nothning about. lessons were recomended to me because i was told with out them it can be quite frustrating learning to stand on the board. basicaly i was doing 2 major things wrong. first and probably the biggest mistake is that i landed the kite in the water, sat down to put my board on and then launched straight up in the power zone, the kite dragged me nicely but since i sent the kite straight up i am guessing that the kite ran out of pull and that would be the reason why my board was going forward and scudding in the water but not enough to stand on. i was expecting the kite to lift me and stand me on my board (dont laugh, im learning here) automaticaly. the second i guess as tone says, i was not digging my heels in enough, i remember my toes pointing forward not upward so that makes sence that i did not get any lift, my ass was in the water and my feet on the board. i do remembered the loud sound from the water as i was doing this and i was very excited. i remember i was backwards flying my kite and drinking water while all this was going on and i had a big smile the whole time. the reason i did not feel in trouble is because where im from you can actualy walk 4 miles into the water and the depest part is only 4 feet deep (pretty cool huh). i do remember being very worn out trying to fly the kite back to shore since the wind was strong. all this and i was fully de-powered. cant wait to try again this friday. wish me luck.

i am new to kitesurfing but have plenty of experiance flying kites. in november i bought myself a titan 15.5 to learn to surf with. well i have been flying this kite on land for months and i have the kite down without effort. this week i tried going out on water for the first time with a 175 board which i thought was fine due to my weight (230 lbs). well i just could not get on the board. i was sitting in knee high water with both feet on the board already but i could not stand on it. the wind was stiff at bout 17 mph but i was being dragged forward, feet on the board planing but my but was in the water. i actualy had my legs locked and the board was sliding forward like a wing. my question is are you supposed to have one end of the board point forwards to get lift off the water or what was i doing wrong? help with this is really apreciated but a gent came up to me and told me that i have great equiptment but that i was over powered. he recomended i learn with a 9meter kite. this sounds weird to me but possible. is the 15.5 to much to learn with?

some one posted the definition of each boards and did their homework but i would like to add one more thing, he states that a wakeboard has too much rocker, this is true. A Mutant board however is an actual wake board that has fins added at the heels. this keeps it from sliding and is an actual apropriate board that can be used in the water. as for learning i too am in your spot. i reasearched for about 2 weeks at 8 hrs per day and came up with a conclusion. from what i gather the slingshot LFT (little fat twin) is the best board to learn on simply because it is so boyant. if you over fly the kite, not power enough or do somthing wrong the board will float for longer than others and you wont sink when error is made, you have a chance to bring kite back or etc... the only draw back is that they are not so good when the wind really pics up, it is to wobbly in strong winds. these boards are not too easy to find used because most of the people who use them do not sell them due to the fact that they are excelent in super light wind days. when you are learning which should be in calm to moderate winds, what you want is a longer board to get you plaining sooner. wheight, i am told by those who sell boards is not a consideration. in reallity your weight does play a factor when learning because you will probably be going out in lower winds. what you need to realize and be prepared to do is that you will not have only one board but at least 2. one for learning which is the most important, and one for when you really want to rip, this should be the smaller of the 2. i wheigh in at 220 lbs and have a 15.5 titan, i just ordered myself a 2002 model Bicsport 175 airflow. it looks like a sweet board and this is what i plan on learning on. all in all, the biger the board the faster you should pick up the sport but once you master the board you will be looking for a second, the next one will just be a matter of preference and style.

help with the bicsport airflow boards 215
bigbadmonkey replied to bigbadmonkey's topic in Kite Surfing
yes i think you are right, these are just to teach some one and for very light winds. i got on the horn quickly and asked them to send me the bicairflow 175, it is a bit smaller and i am hoping it will perform nicely to get some air which is what i really want. i have a hyperlite wake board which is 145 cm. i hope that in really windy days i can use that, and the 175 in not so windy. -
hey i see you actualy have a bic, do these things perform as good as the new stuff out there, say like a slingshot or cabrina? i just orderd the 215 but the dude was recomending i get the 175. when i looked up the site it said the 175 was for med to strong winds, with my weight of 230 lbs i figured i should go with the airflow 215. what do you think? good move or should i have stuck with the 175?

hey you all, i just purchased a board online which i really do not know much about. i had found a LFT slingshot used that i was planing on buying but one thing led ot another and i bought something else. a bicsports airflow 215. this thing looks serious, the main reason i bought this was because i am a 230lb guy so i figured that i needed a lot of board. i have no boarding experience but i am confident and experianced enogh to fly my 15.5 titan as a recreational kite at 14 mph without ever geting into trouble (i was told i was crazy by another kiter) and fly and handle the kite quite well. does any one know of these 2002 boards. i saw them on line at their site bicsport.com and they seem to rock! i also noticed that bicsports makes wind boards and surf boards as well so i figured that they know what they are doing and i should not go wrong. the only concern is that i have not heard much about these guys from people i know. any help as to if they are any good, i feel i got a very good deal on this board. let me know what you know or have heard. thanks.

i have a bullet 2.5 as well and a blade II 4.9 which i have read should have the same power of your 4.0 blade III. i can fly the bullet with out any problems in those winds but the pull is hard when i swing left to right in the power zone which is ok for me because i wheigh 230 pounds so i have lots of fun in those winds. the blade i have no worries about using in those same winds, the difference is infact better because the blade is slower and will not yank your arms so hard wich is what makes you fall flat on your face, it will pull you with much more power but you will notice that you have time to react and feel the line tightening, then you just lean back softly and enjoy a long skid. or you can swing from either side and just about when it is in the midle pull as fast as you can and make the blade rise straight up, this will make you go up about 6 to 10 feet into the air, depending on your technique. i will also stress that due to my wheight for some reason i have extremely soft landings the higher i fly into the air, i will enjoy the landings of a 6+ foot jump. on the other hand i have had some pain when i jump 2 or 3 feet but land on wet sand. believe me, kites do and act funny in certain winds, my 15.5 titan is the softest landings of all my kites. in truth, the bigger the kite the better the landing so dont be afraid to go out in those winds but always be prepared to dump the kite if you are over powered, even with my weight i always use kite killers while flying.

santa monica, santa barbara locations(california)
bigbadmonkey replied to vishist1's topic in Kite Surfing
yo, im not from cali, im from texas which is still 2 days away. my brother is living in cali but does not kite surf. he does tell me that kite surfing is good because there are always lots of surfers out. ill ask him what beach he went to but i beleve it was at santa monica. plenty of kite shops though, might want to call and ask about that. -
not giving any advice or anything but thought i would share something with you. 2 weeks ago we were out at the beach flying kites, we started with a couple of bullets 2.5s and were geting a serious work out session. getting pulled and jerked all over the place and having a blast. well i figured it was time to get some good jumps so i took out the 4.9 blade and noticed that this kite was a lot more well behaved in the wind. skuds were nice but not any huge jumps. well after i got comfortable i figured i would try the titan 15.5 for recreational. well it came out and it behaved beautifly, easy and fun to fly, even my neighbor wanted a go and he is only 5 feet tall and wheighs about 170. he loved it. he said the safety features where comfortable to him and in the end we all had more fun getting slow super long skuds in the sand. my nieghbor likes to fly recless so he kept diving the kite and then launching again. he said he felt as being tied to a diesel truck, slow speed but all the power in the world. we had to go pick him up in a van because he was so far away. the point is that the big kites fly slower so the power is not as unpredictable and we figured that a kite that big likes 15 plus mph winds to fly well and the more it has the better it flys. at my wheight (240 lbs) i need over 20 mph to get me on the water.

flysurfer is the way to go. it will not auto zenith but if it hits the water it will be the first one back in the air within seconds. got a titan 15.5 and i still cant take the smile off my face. i use it even as a recreational kite on land. very fun. i have however heard that the voodos are suposed to be a better kite.
-
one last thing i forgot, you are not doing anything wrong. the flysurfer is not supposed to launch at full power but it is not impossible to do, i have never heard of anyone doing it though. i have been a bit powered up and pulled on one side of lines and when the kite is about to flip over you let the line go and it will actualy launch to the side and then you can bring the kite upwards. not easy to do though and would probably be more of luck than tecknique. you would need a good gust to do that. one more thing, i have actualy flown the titan at about 4 mph and had some skuds on those winds and i wheigh 240 lbs. beleve me the flysurfers are ahead of their time. i will not however argue that there are better kites out there, i just would not know which one.
