Sounds like a good plan. I wasn't sure if I had to somehow get the main leader through the velcro clamp thing. It's a good job I asked first.

Can anyone fill me in on the correct way to put a Dekine strop onto Blade III handles ?

Yes and no. Unless I am mistaken most if not all sealed bearings come greased. OK if you want to break the land speed record for the fastest fag box rolling down a hill record then I would not use grease. I doubt very much that if a 10+ stone person standing on an ATB, on sand or grass, hanging onto a 4+ meter kite will go ANY slower because there is grease in his bearings. During my MTB days we all used boat grease. Its one of the thickest greases I have found. We found the thickness would prevent the dirt getting to the bearings, a thin grease would quickly mix up and turn into a dirty paste.

I almost joined in this thread to defend the BIII and then thought.... why ? Everyone wants something different. The other day I was flying my 8.5 in a 35mph (its an example) gusty wind and I thought it sucked .. sound familiar ? Sure, on that day it would have been a bad kite and I would hate it. Are these people the type that have to go and see every film before their "friends" just so they can slag it off for being crap ?

Dont worry about the planes .. they will come of far worse if they find your lines, the people flying them know that and should keep well away. They too are supposed to keep to a section of the Downs, they have their own rules and restrictions on a notice at the top near the car park. Last time I want to the Downs I fancied a go at my Super 10. Could I launch it alone ?? no,, and I could almost feel the other kiters giggling ..... none offered to help. Baaaaa-humbug.

I had trouble finding anything to read in this mag ! I find more interesting reading spending 5 minutes in this place. Half of it looked like it was ripped out the Flexifoil book and the other half was pasted off advertising flyers. I didn't mind paying cash for the first two but this one was a letdown.

You will notice a change in the kite. The longer lines do give you cleaner wind but in exchange for less response, first few flights will seem weird.

You need to tell us what went wrong last time ? What kite did you get ? Why don't you like it ?

Parapacking is a way to put your kite away. There are loads of threads about it, loads of people describing their method so I wont go into detail .... but I will say. I will never pack any other way. It is fool-proof and lightning fast to get setup and put away. Go find a friendly person to show you how. 8.5 in a 10mph or less. First flight was in 10mph and being a beginner on the ATB it was a bit much ... pulls like a train. Super for jumps mind.

You got to get a stake, a good one, a corkscrew type will last for ages. Oh, and learn to parapack. If you get the chance to see how an experianced kite type can unpack - launch - land - pack, all unaided and in minutes ..... dont miss it.

Was this your first flight ? Its a common fault to connect the brake lines to the end of the brake bridle and this is very bad, you must connect to the knot higher up about half way . Do it wrong and you have no brakes, that wont help your first flight. If you ask me there should be some warning about this. My first day with the 8.5 it almost pulled a dog stake clean out of firm ground. Try and gather that lot up in a hurry when it wants to go fly itself.

I'm no expert but I feel the answer you are gonna get is along the lines of ............................... The Bullet is ideal for a buggy as it dont generate too much lift. The Blade has bags of lift and will help you out on a landboard. I'm no expert ....... but you will get a lot more helpfull answers than this one... we hope.

P.S and when I said fun, fun in the safest possible way. (flying RC planes in strong wind is fun. Not only does it test your reflexes, it also means you get the flying site to yourself ..... no self respecting aero-model flying type ever takes their pride and joy out in a wind) (not unless they like to test their reflexes or like the site to themselves) (but I dont class myself as a self respecting aero-model flying type)

The limit of 5 meters on a 4-line kite is not a real problem. A Blade III 6.6 has a 5 meter span, If you cant have fun with one of those your doing something wrong.

If your bearings have got rubber seals they can be cleaned out. Ease a thin flat blade driver under the inside of the seal and prise it off, do this very carefull as bending it will make it harder if not impossible to replace. Wash the bearing out in petrol/parafin/white spirit, anything that will evaporate and then fill ONE SIDE ONLY with a good grease, boat grease would be best. Then press your seals back on. Only ever pack one side of a bearing. This is plenty of grease to protect and lubricate. Overpacking a bearing can cause the balls to become unable to move freely, skidding in the races and not running in them.

The Downs is gonna be my prefered flying site now the wind has picked up. The local park is a bit too small when things get fun. If you see 2 blokes with a pile of Blades & Stackers come and say hi. I once saw a ranger type bloke telling a kid that he could not use an ATB on the downs, he was pointing toward a sign saying it was clearly in writing ........ I have since read this sign and it does say NO BUGGIES. Where do we think we stand on this one ???????

You forgot to fly the kite. I know its hard when your heart pops up into your mouth, and your little botty makes plans to let out a few house bricks ..... but if you had kept your kite above your head you would have had a soft landing. They dont get a lot softer than a 9 meter Blade.

I started my 8.5 on 30m lines but now use 25m. I havn't noticed much difference in power but it did make it more responsive, and so it gives me more confidence knowing I can put it exactly where I want it to be.

More knots on the brake leaders are a must for tuning the brake line length, I have added another three in varous places. Also moving the leash knot a little closer to the handle helps remove the tendancy for the leach to apply the brake from being too tight. (sorry if this comment dont really follow the thread subject but it helped me)
