a few of us were out in el gouna 7 weks ago; pre booked surf board under 2 mtrs with the travel agent cost us £10 extra. bag max wieght is 33kgs.we all took board/kitebags ranging from best golf to huge north kitebags and noproblems at all. the travel agent suggested we pre book and pay in advance and there should be no problems.she was correct. have a good one and hope the wind turns up,found the lack of waves the problem, flat water is ok for some of the time but not all the time!. hope this helps

just got back from a week kitesurfing in el gouna egypt with members of the borth massif. wind every day using mostly 11 and 9 mtr yarga kites on flat water. definately the best area ; far bigger than hurgada and no big buildings to get in the way, huge lagoon before open water. note; take some sort of boots for feet; nasty sharp rocks and coral at low water, wind also cold! got a bit fed up with constant flat water though needed the big wave fix, but good for learning new tricks or even just learning. some weird rules at the german run school there; launch kite towards buildings ie from sea to over land and not towards or over water thus avoiding lofting ( had some scares when peeps got cought out with gusts, having to take the kite overhead to get to sea and then getting dragged very quickly up the beach towards the buildings). kites coming in from water have priority over those setting off to sea! place to stay is the captains and turtles; go through thompsons, we got half board for £346 for the week sharing room ,unfortunately we had to fly from gatwick! got to say though, it dont come close to cape town!!!!!!!!!!!

not quite sure on using the term "get stung" you must expect to pay import duty, but its only 20% what's the problem, its still cheaper than the uk! and as Andy says you still get full back up from the uk and top class back up at that!

import dutyfrom the states to here works out at about 20% of total price; best use fedex which do all the paper work etc for you ,all you will get is a phone call from fedex when they are in the country, then you pay them the bill over the phone by card and they are deliverd the next day. just got a quiver of 5 kites from best last week and the tax cost me 20% of the kites. i got a 3 for 2 deal from dec and a 2 for 1 deal. and before you pick at the time to get here i was waiting for specific colours.from dispatch day in florida to arrival took 5 days and that included over a weekend,NOT BAD oh and total cost for the 5 kites including tax was £1425 : new 7, 9, 11, and 15 mtr yarga and a used 20mtr yarga, THINK THE PRICE SPEAKS FOR ITSELF, AND THE KITES ARE BRILLIANT PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE EVER FLOWN and i been flying for a while. go ahead and import them i would certainly recommend it and dont listen to the nurds with the scare stories!

i learnt on wipika free airs which at the time were great kites, after a few years graduated on to wipika airblasts; they too in there time were great kites, maybe a little frigile on the build. after much testing and flying of many makes from naish X series to flexi stikes and north vegas i eventually settled on the BEST YARGA: they are at least 33% cheaper than any other kite on the market ,are equal if not better than some on build quality and they are by far one of the best kites i have flown to date; light on the bar very quick in the sky and to turn and huge depower giving an unusualy large wind window, something the strikes dont seem to equal.

cant remember any places worth the effort, either trees or power lines or cable cars.maybe one spot under the cliff right at the top but be aware of avalanch,oh and there is a lake under there somewhere!

one of my favourits is plouharnel ,on quiberon penninsular west of vannes;east side huge bay opp carnach sor south easterlys ,flat water with little chop.on the west side atlantic ocean with HUGE swells.only about 400mtres between them.if you have a van you camp in the dunes behing the bays along with the others. another spot bit further down the coast 1 to2 kl north of st jean du mont ( west of nantes) kitesurfing beach ,again park up behing the dunes. paradise. st nazaire ,in the loire estuary is huge but does tend to be dirty because of all the shipping. have fun:cool:

sorry to dissappoint ; but you wont make much money at it in this country; we aint got the weather ,so unless you are going to live and work in sunny climes i would not waste your money! i did!!!

now there is a dilemar! i have a 12 frenzy, why; on light days i can keep going and on windier days it just depowers.totaly agree that the 9.5 turns much faster than the 12 and is far more manouverable around the sky but, the 12 just has that bottom end grunt when the wind is just that bit lighter. also i dont like going out when the wind is up too much as it gets cold and you cant see in the white outs! you have to make your own mind up but as you are obviously profficient at flying you wont have a problem there.ask yourself which is the inflatable you use the most? then you wont be far off. io have used the 12 on thje water a few times and it has great float in the jumps and again the bottom end is a great bonus.i have also used the 9.5 on the water as well to great effect even in about 25 knots of wind one day when it really got up on the water.

strike ; great peice of kit at a price ,wait till next year when strike 2 appear and the s/hand market prices should reflect the arrival of the new model.if however you buy the best yarga ,you get 3 kites for the price of 2 and i'm told they are as good, but i am still waiting to try one and if they are as good ,guess what i'm buying!

have you tried the north vegas; awesome!

my goodness tim the reason is obvious ; you are at last riding a good fast board ie a MAD EEL , they should come with a set of ankle straps to stop your problem;of course you could go back to riding your formica work surface and not have the problem but to be sure it is not worth substituting that great board.just wait till you try out the 125 *41 mad eel of mine, you will have to ware a waist belt as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dont listen to col ; he paints his wet suit on!!!!!!!!!! reminds me of the old joke; nun having a bath, a knock on the door, nun shouts " who's there" ," the blind man" came the reply.ok she thought i'll answer the door without getting dressed. as she opens the door the guy says" nice tits sister ,where do you want these blinds"?
