  1. Hey All. I am coming down to Hayle on the 14th June for a week. Anyone around on Gwithian then? I am quite new to this, but I will bring my Predator buggy and kite with me, so if anyone is about.(Any help/tips/instruction gratefully received:D)....?
  2. Thanks Shrimpo. I might be there on friday around 2 o'clock. Eager to get started now. one problem is I have only had a brief (loosely bolted) go at assembling the buggy so far. i don't want to take the p**s and turn up expecting some-one to help me make my bug. In fact if I assemble it first I dont know if it will fit in my car !! I know what you mean about looking at other kites. I am already thinking of getting a 2mtr kite for stronger winds/learning with. Finally, I have paid for insurance (both BPKA and BKSA), but not had my "card" through yet, although I have had an e-mail giving me my number etc. Would a copy of the e-mail suffice as proof of insurance?
  3. Thanks Mooney. I will take a look tomorrow afternoon. good advice re the buggy, I think I will need as much room as possible. Took a drive over to Barleylands earlier, just to have a look. grass looked a bit long. Does it cut very often? I may get over to BL this weekend hopefully.
  4. Thanks for the replies all. Mooney, whereabouts are the playing fields on Hall lane? I was near there earlier at the vets ! Could be my nearest place to fly. Is buggying allowed there? I work nights, so usually have a couple of hours each afternoon free, so thought I would hone my kite skills, and then get going on the buggy. As I said, I need some help initially with setting up etc, as I know nothing about it !
  5. Hi. As I have mentioned in a couple of previous posts, my lovely wife has bought me a s/h Predator buggy for my birthday. It has a midi on front, and bigfoot lites on the rear. The axle is 1.35 mtrs.(I dont know if this is classed as wide or not) I have ordered a new set of bolts/nuts and bearings which I should get this week, so it should be ready to roll very soon. My question is basically this: How do I learn how to set up the buggy (being S/H there are no instructions)? The chap I bought it from lives up in Cumbria, so not too close!! I know it sounds stupid, but even attaching the seat is a bit of a puzzle for me, having never really studied this before. And secondly, Where is it best to learn? Should I try and find a proper teacher, or just go and have a go? I live in Hornchurch, Essex, so I am near to Barleylands, and Essex powerkite park. Are there any friendly and helpful bods out there who would be kind enough to show me the correct way to assemble my bug, and maybe even show me the basics with regard to starting off riding? There may well be a beer involved, if necessary I only have 1 kite at present, it is a beamer 3.6mtr. More kites to follow when I know what I am doing, and know what I want. Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance. Gary.
  6. Hi All. I have just bought a S/H Predator race buggy from these here forums. Looking at the nuts and bolts, some of them are a bit corroded or the threads are a bit shot. Looking at some suppliers of such items is so confusing, as to not only length, but diameter, thread size, thread type etc etc. So, does anyone have a list of ALL nuts, bolts etc for the Predator, as I havent a clue how and what to order. I have googled it, but cant find a list as I need. Please help. Any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance.
  7. Dragraceing buggies....bring it on lol http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3368/3553678496_178eaa064f.jpg Now THAT'S a buggy. All you need is a 20Metre kite to get over the resistance of those rear wheels!!

    Which insurance?

Oh Dear, what a large can I seem to have opened. Not intentionally, just wanted some advice !! So, has any-one on here had any cause to claim, from either / any of these insurance providers? If so, did that person have 1 or 2 policies? Still sitting here wondering which policy I should get !!
  9. Thanks for the link, very helpful. Discs? Are these for dragracing buggies? They look cool though, but I bet they need good hard ground?
  10. So is it a L or an XL? they are the same cost on the website, but they are 2 distinct sizes if XL I will be interested. Thanks.
  11. Thanks BeamerBob. So I guess these would fit straight on without a problem. The only difference being the colour?
  12. OK, trying to find midi wheels on 20mm bearings, and having a nightmare. Will PeterLynne / Flexifoil wheels fit, or do they have to be Libre ( Which is what the front wheel is apparently) If I decide to buy a set of 3 barrow wheels, which do seem to be in stock, again what make? or does it not matter? Thanks again for the help. Any other suggestions for suppliers in the UK? No-one seems to have any.
  13. Well, thanks for the replies. @ Popeyethewelder - Thats cleared up my confusion. The buggy I have bought (S/H) is a Predator which has a midi wheel on the front on 12mm bearings, but is wheel-less on the back, but needs wheels with 20mm bearings. I don't know the axle diameter. Does this mean all 3 wheels have to be the same size and type? Or could I fit bigfoot lights on the back with the midi on the front? Also, I don't know (because I havent received the buggy yet) what the front fork width is. @ F/O Kite - I will be initially on grass, but hope to go onto sand when I can do the basic stuff. @ thorondor - Thanks for the info, good points. So does this mean that the hubs all have the same size hole in the middle? and the 12 or 20mm bearing size refers to the axle diameter? Thanks again. (So much to learn !)
  14. Sorry to be such a noob, but could some-one explain what the differences are between these and what fits on what? I have just bought a Predator race buggy which has 12mm bearing front wheel, which is a midi, and the rear uses 20mm bearings. So which do i get? I will be learning mostly on grass, but with use on firm sand too. I am just confused as to what goes with what, and when you buy wheels, do you have to buy hubs, plus tubes plus tyres? Sorry for the stupidity:D
  15. Hi. I live in Hornchurch, what about you?

    Which insurance?

It does say this though: Quote from policy document: " Other than in respect of extensions 3 and 8 if at the time of any claim there is but for the existence of this Policy there would be any other insurance covering the same legal liability the indemnity will not apply except in respect of any amount beyond that which would have been payable under such other insurance had this Policy not been effected " So does this mean there would be a long fight as to which of the insurers is liable?
  17. I hadn't considered the Viper. £250 on the link you posted though, so not that much cheaper!

    Which insurance?

So in other words I am Kna~@ered, as I have paid for the insurance from BKSA, so unless I cancel, I have to stick with it. Looking at the terms of the 2 parks I will probably be using, (Barleylands & Essex Powerkite Park), it seems if I pay as a day visitor it just says I need any 3rd party insuramce, however 1 of them requires BPKA insurance if I want to be a member. (Barleylands) If there is someone on here from either of these places, maybe you could advise?

    Which insurance?

So which one is it best to join? I already paid for BKSA, online. Ped - I am in Essex, just outside of Scotland !

    Which insurance?

I am doing the 24hr hoylake and was told BKSA was no good because it wasn't one of their events. I have now applied for BPKA as well. I must have interpreted it wrong. There was quite a long thread over on R/K about the different sites and the insurance they accept, it concluded that one insurance would not cover you fully. Thanks for the info The problem with "grey areas" when it comes to insurance is that most insurance companies IMHO will do anything they can to get out of paying out in the event of a claim. For the sake of the extra £15 for BPKA, I may as well adopt the "belt and braces" approach, and join both. Thanks again.
  21. Thanks all. I think I will get the 5m Blurr, but I am not going to rush out and buy it just yet. I think the advice to get used to things with the Beamer first is good, and it will give me some-thing to work towards.
  22. I am waiting for my new buggy to arrive, and looking through the forums I thought I would get some insurance. So I joined (online) BKSA. But just a thought, does this cover all sites (in UK) or do I also need to consider BPKA and also PKA insurance/membership too? I know it's not expensive, but I dont need to join them all do I? Thanks in advance.
  23. That's wot I said - kinda! Thanks for the advice guys. Of course you are right, and I don't want to sound like I am trying to run before I can walk, but the wife has promised me a new kite for our anniversary in June. So I thought "Why not?" As far as current ability, well, I am confident flying what I have, and can skud a bit if the wind is strong, and the grass is wet:D. Who knows, I might be ******** at buggying, in fact I bet I will be to start with, so I might be OK with my current kite for a while anyway. The question was more a "what next" type question with regard to size and type. I just read a lot on here that the Blurr is designed specifically for buggying, so I thought it might make learning a bit easier? Then again, I am new to this and might be completely wrong. Anyway, anyone in Essex fancy showing me how to get going in a buggy?
  24. Hi All. My darling wife has bought me a libre buggy (S/H) for my Bday. It has a wide axle, but I haven't picked it up yet, so I don't know how wide exactly. I need to know your thoughts on what size Blurr kite should I start with? (Or any other kite I should be thinking about?) I have a 3 year old HQ Beamer around 3.5 mtr at the mo. I know, depends on wind etc, but as a first kite for starting out in buggying? I weigh just around 17 stone!! Thanks in advance.
