Good to know you completely grasped my ''tongue in cheek'' comments when I was messin with BigBud, but what you state has more than just a tint of arrogance m8... 1, I took lessons and did not fall asleep during the boring bit. The UK BKSA/IKO instructor did not do it for real, but he explained it clearly and it was one of the first things I did when I had my own kite. 2, I know exactly how safety systems work and I am not afraid to pull them 3, I fly North and the 5th Element Iron Heart is one of the safest and reliable out there 4, I have done packdown on at least 3 occasions for various reasons and have never needed a boat or assistance. North lines untangle far easier than Cabrinha lines. Peace and Love and Good winds to all Rich.

Exactly my point m8, landusers do all sorts of weird and alien things which kite surfers are pre-programmed not to do. Unfortunately, my observations allow me to be accused of being a troll... Oh Well... At least its FRIDAY!!! And there some wind on the horizon!!

Hi Fella's Probably going to make the trip up to your neck of the woods for the first time this Sun / Mon. Whereabouts is the best place to go and park to set up if we get this promised NNE wind? Also, what's the best time to rock up if low tide is between 4 and 5pm on those days? Cheers for your help Rich

Lesson #2 Do not hot launch your LEI in the middle of the kite set up area like you do with your foil, but wait patiently for a kind experienced kite surfer to come over and launch you nice and safely at the edge of the wind window after first checking for obstacles and giving all the BKSA approved hand signals. Lesson #3 Only go on the water if you have been clearly demonstrated a deep water packdown at least two times by a nice BKSA instructor called Garry (with at least two RR's) who doesnt mind spending your hard earned cash on the rest of the lesson untangling the lines...

Deep water packdown is explained on the free RNLI DVD. And in lessons, I have yet to meet anyone where the instructor did it for real..... it's more like, I'm going to tell you this is how you do it , but I can't be arsed to stand on the beach for an hr sorting out the tangles... if it all goes wrong do the following... keep one line under tension, avoid the sunken lines, don't deflate until told to by the rescue boat, keep knife handy, blow whistle, release flare, inflate bouyancy aid, call mates on beach with mobile in aqua pack, keep the board on etc... (cue safety flamers!!) Also if money is really tight you can torrent Progression. No1 is on there if you know where to look (cue copyright is theft, flamers!!!!)

I think its a question of respecting each others airspace and keeping to it. The model flyer should have realised that his plane could cause damage and kept away from the kite. VK could have landed and waited for them to finish their go. They can only stay in the air for a max of about 15 minutes anyway before it needs re-fueling.. Trying to look at it from the fence perspective I think the model flyer was probably more at fault due to the way the accident happened and their actions after the accident.

Yeah... He probably didn't have insurance by the way he scarpered as soon as he'd realised you had hurt yourself and knew that he was in the wrong... You prob won't see him again as the sound alone announces their presence for miles around. Sorry to hear about the break anyways.. I broke my wrist a year ago snowboarding and it was 6 week before I could kite again and that was against doc's orders. No lasting damage though! BTW FWIW If you see model flyers behaving like this in your vicinity, you should immediately drop the kite and just observe for a few minutes and see what they are doing. Maybe even have a word with them, if they look approachable (which most of them are...) A nitro powered aircraft will typically weigh between 3-5 kilo and have a very large lump of very hot and heavy metal on the front of it. If it hits your kite it will probably rip a large hole in it and crash very close to you OR even worse it could go thru a flying line, leaving you in an out of control situation and it will then probably crash next to or near to you... Either way you are the one most likely to get hurt(!) Soz to sound alarmist, but in the wrong/inexperienced/chavvy (delete as appopriate) hands these planes are not ''toys'' just like our kites aren't and they could do a lot of damage v quickly

Was the plane petrol or electric?? If it was electric it was prob some guy flying on the offchance in a public field. If it was petrol then there are stricter guidelines (usually) on whether he could fly in that field. Either way, most ''sensible'' RC model flyers and particularly the ones flying larger, faster and more dangerous models should have 3rd party liability insurance in the same way that we all do (!). It is usually thru an organisation called the BMFA and they are covered for legal costs and liability for about 5 million...

You think Kitesurfing is bad?? You should see some of the stuff on the snowboarding forums.... ie: ''Flows are gay'', a type of binding which you can step in and out of easily, compared to ''straps'' which are considered more manly.... Go figure?? P.S I ride straps!!

I'm off to Egypt in about 3 weeks... Would I be able to fit a Nobile NBL 143 into the Dakine Outlaw 140? Or is that just taking the ****? I don't want to get a bigger bag unless I have to. Cheers Rich
