    Broken Kites

G'day, I must correct something that I wrote in the initial post.. both leading edge lines broke and the 3 outside-most tabs on the left (red) trailing edge pulled out of the stitching. The Kite was bought new from Kite and Kaboodle at Coogee in early November and the kite had a few (3 to 4) what I would call minor impacts with the ground in light winds when I was first learning. I estimate over the next month I flew the kite approx 30 hrs with no trouble. The wind on the fateful day was fairly constant, I was in Llannarth in Bathurst for pre Christmas celebrations and a lull occured where the wind went from the kite and the sail inverted and was falling to the ground, I corrected the decent, crossing the lines and flew it up towards vertical to be able to uncross the lines which I did. Then the gust hit which (I am not sure which happened first but) I think the leading edge line failed and then the tabs pulled from the stiitching while up in the air. Steve said that it was probably good that the lines broke or I would have been lofted\dragged. I neglected to ask Steve if it might be a warranty job but am unsure which part of the kite failed first. From what I understand the strings are my responsibility and if their failure caused the damage to the kite then I would have no claim... There is absolutely no other visible damage to the kite. That was another purpose of this post I suppose... to find out whether ozone kites have had this problem before... They look very well made and am happy with the kite thus far. Is it a good idea to have all the dyneema attached to the kite replaced or just the flying lines? Tim

    Broken Kites

Hey all, Just writing an update... (can't go kiting... yet) Have been in contact with Steve and am sending the kite to have it professionally fixed, upgrade the lines and I'll be set to kite again. I'm fine, just had a small welt on my knuckles from the lines recoiling. I landed flat on my back because I was leaning back so far... It would have been good to watch, I would have you-tubed it in a flash!! Happy kiting Tim
  3. Hi all, So I was flying my Ozone 4.5m IMP on the weekend (which I bought in early November) and BANG!!!, POP, POP, POP, I end up covered in orange dyneema and my poor kite flails to the ground. On further inspection (after alot of untangling) two broken bottom strings and three attaching tabs pulled clean from their home. I'm going to call kitepower tomorrow regarding my options, does anyone else have experiences with getting their kites' stitching resewn? Should I get longer lines this time (originals were 18m long)? Thanks, Tim
  4. Hello Everyone else, I am very new to kiting of the four stringed variety, just bought an Ozone 4.5m IMP in November before my wife, 2 kids and I holidayed in Calounda (Nice Spot!!). I am a Registered Nurse, doing shift work so am able to pick days when the conditions are right to fly my kite. I previously enjoyed flying kites from an early age (earliest I cant remember flying was age 5), making and then flying sled kites. Later (approx. 5 years ago), I became interested in kites again when I saw a bloke flying a foil kite on Coolangatta beach, and another bloke surfing behind a kite, I thought that would be unreal to do... We have Lake Burrendong nearby to Dubbo and am looking in the near future to taking the plunge and getting lessons while in Sydney and purchasing the gear necessary to kiteboard on Burrendong. I glad to have found this forum and site and look forward to sponging information from alot of you along the way... Tim
