  14. The council have looked at banning Kitesurfing but failed and have now put up small signs to warn the public and cover their ass, buggys and landboards have come under an oil byelaw which is Beach Restrictions. Byelaw 1977 7. Sand Yachts. No person shall sail any sand yacht or cause or permit the same to be sailed upon any part of the foreshore sands and wastes situated between the breakwater at the South Eastern end of Aberavon foreshore and the Borough boundary in the North. Max fine £20.00 Thats seems to be the law at Aberavon, Kitezones that they are on about in these articles would be good if they were, Aberavon has Surfing and Jetski areas so a Kitezone on the Council zone has got to be a positive. The North end (righthand side) is not under their control so seems to be a free for all and that is where Kiters are pointed to. Creating a Aberavon Kite Club was looked into 2 years ago and a web site was put up on the www and still is (aberavonkiteclub.co.uk), as luck has it very few incidents have happened but recent events have turned the spotlight on again. There are several pros and cons for a Club (muppets dont help), the Hayling Island Club is a good example to copy and the council are all for one that is local. Bottom line is, who wants one? Anyone who does or dont then why not post a reply on the above website if enough kiters want one then a local pub meet can be arranged and one formed very quickly. BKSA does seem the better choice to affiliate to but that is for those interested to do their homework and decide. There are Clubs for land and water in the area but its a local Aberavon Club that the Council want and if one is created and has their blessings then look at what events etc could then be held, Aberavon is a great place to Kite and would be a big loss to so many people if lost.
  15. The Aberavon Kite Club should be up and running for 2007. It is at present becoming affiliated to the BPKA. If Aberavon were to be the venue for an event like this then it could be held under the Aberavon Kite Club BPKA event insurance. Details of event insurance can be found on a BPKA link on the Clubs website. http://www.aberavonkiteclub.co.uk Pjb
