  1. Saturday is looking the goods for the Downwinder. Should be awesome. Pt Sturt to Milang; First time it's been done (with kites) as far as we can gather. 1pm at the Milang carpark. Hang around for dinner & drinks at the club after. Everyone welcome. Better accommodation available if you want to bring the family down. Give me a call on 0411 454 656 if you want more details. Catch you there at 1pm. Cheers, Chappy
  2. Hi all, The Pt Sturt to Milang Downwinder is now going to be held on Saturday the 1st of March. Being a Saturday it'll no doubt kick on so the Regatta Club has offered their clubrooms and bar for us to have dinner after plus crash upstairs in swags for those who are keen (probably sleeps about 20); $20 per head for 2 courses and a place to sleep seems pretty reasonable. You can also stay in the Caravan Park or at the Milang motel if you want something better. Let me know if you are keen as we need to confirm dinner numbers by Wednesday next week. The lads who hung around last Saturday got an awesome session in for a few hours, hopefully we'll get some similar wind. We'll still make it a 1pm meet at the Milang carpark as the breeze usually comes in earlier. See you then. Cheers Chappy
  3. Downwinder is 12kms which is like the Henley to Semaphore downwinders that are the usual run... We'll do it at some stage in the next few weeks. Cheers
  4. UNFORTUNATELY THE NORTHERLY WIND IS LIKELY TO HOLD OUT THE SEABREEZE ON SUNDAY, THEREFORE THE DOWNWINDER IS POSTPONED FOR 2-3 WEEKS. However, if you are keen to check out the spot, Saturday looks like it'll be SE 20 knots down there. Metro coast is also looking good. We'll let you know shortly when we'll reschudule it for. Apologies for any inconvenience but that's the wind..... Cheers Chappy
  5. Hi all, Looks like there could be a couple of people heading down to Milang on Saturday and swagging it as it's generally still ridable when there's no wind in town if you're keen. I'll be down that night. Also a few aren't sure where Milang is... It's on Lake Alexandrina about 50mins from the Toll Gate. Basically, you need to get to Strathalbyn either via Mt Barker on the SE Freeway or through Meadows. Head out the SE corner of Strath towards Langhorne Creek and about 5kms out is the turnoff for Milang. Alternatively head towards Goolwa and turn left at Finniss. On the Milang main drag is the Pub and down below it is the Caravan Pk and the main Carpark. We'll meet there at 1pm on Sunday. All skill levels are welcome as even those body dragging can practice in the shallows heading downwind from Milang. Those in control of their boards can drive upwind and go down from Point Sturt. I'll confirm wind conditions on Friday but its almost always rideable down there. We'll fire up the barbie after for some dinner depending on who's keen. Cheers Chappy
  6. All welcome: Sunday Feb 17 Many of us have set the 17th aside as the Freestyles backup day so assuming the comp occurs this weekend, we'll do a downwinder for the fun of it. 10 mins from Strathalbyn, Milang has always been overlooked as Boggy is so close but with little water in Boggy, I've seen the number of kiters steadily increase this summer at Milang. Flat water, SE seabreezes, no real tides, no real waves, no big 'fish' and heaps of room for rigs makes Milang an attracive option. Plus chest deep water makes it easier for those who are not yet staying upwind. We'll meet at the Milang carpark down by the water/jetty at 1pm and take a few cars down to Point Sturt and come back across the lake to Milang (about 12kms). I'll have a chat to the Regatta Club down there about some dinner after, but the pub serves a cracking feed as well. Hope to see you there. Cheers Chappy
  7. The Freestyles are proceeding as planned on Saturday; Meeting time is 1pm for a 1:30pm competitor briefing. Sunday is still the back up day should we need it. It is being held at the West Beach SLSC, NOT the West Beach Sailing Club. The address is the corner of Seaview Rd and West Beach Rd. We are expecting some SE but the seabreeze should come in S and fortunately that stretch of West Beach coast is still ridable with a bit of easterly in it. Just pray that the wind gods favour us...! If you are undecided as to whether you'll compete as you're still developing your skills in the sport, bring your gear down as we may run an Open Amatuer Division (limited tricks div) depending on conditions, time availability and numbers competing. See you there.

  9. Thanks for everyone who came down to Goolwa today. Although conditions only allowed a few to get on the water, it was a great turn out and catch up. As is always the way, the wind came in as we had just finished packing up...and as advised to all competitors, we'll be resuming the comp at 9am tomorrow morning to take advantage of the SW wind while the swell is still there. Anyone who's keen to watch, we'll be 500m from the Goolwa Beach Car Park down towards the Mouth. Hope to see you there. Cheers Chappy

  12. Hi all, At least today we don't have to worry about not enough wind...? Meeting at Chicken Shop (Mirani Court Car Park behind Golden Lakes Chinese) at 12 and we'll take it from there. Hope to see you there.
  13. Nice one Mike!
  14. I'll take the salt and it's a fair point... my vocab better harden up... That said, it'll be impromptu when we post on Sunday morning that it's blowing 50 knots and anyone with a 1m kite or larger better forget it...Except Geoff who has the ultimate ultra turbo-thrusted quadruple depower on his 14m...I'd like to see that. Keep an eye on the site...
  15. Hi all, As you may have seen, there is a decent chance of some breeze around this weekend. We’ve had some poor timing with Downwinders in the past couple of months so we thought we might have a chance of holding an impromptu one this Sunday if the wind is good and in the right direction. Most likely it will be Henley (Torrens Mouth) to Chicken shop (Mirani Crt Car Park) or vice versa; and meeting at 12pm to be on the water by 1pm (bear in mind daylight saving changes). We’ll have a BBQ after and help people get back to cars etc. Perhaps also bring a change of clothes for a late Sunday arvo drink or two. As always, everyone is welcome. If you aren't a member of SAKSA, bring your $65 and we'll fix it up on the day. Keep an eye on the SAKSA.com.au forum if you’re free and we’ll post on Saturday evening/Sunday morning which car park to meet at (once we understand what the weather is doing…). If you aren’t free, no sweat, we’ll be holding another one in a few weeks time… Hope to see you there. Any queries, give me a call on 0411 454 656 or Geoff on 0418 828 603 Cheers, Chappy
  16. Hi Guys, if you've read this newsletter (issue 2), in the AGM story it appear that there is a misprint that refers to riding at "Semaphore". This should in fact refer to riding at "Largs". You'll see an updated version shortly...
  17. All you need is your blue tag for 07/08 and you are rockin down at Largs as the blue tag indicates that you are covered by SAKSA's permit. As far as the Port/Enf council is concerned, that is the only area in their council area that you can ride; therefore Semaphore is out. This has actually been in place for more than two years, the council has just never enforced it until now... To the south of Fort Glanville (Chicken shop/Mirani Crt Car Park) is Charles Sturt Council and is ok. All that said, this pertains to launching and dropping your kite. You can ride anywhere provided you are out past the low tide mark. Therefore, if you have a SAKSA tag, you can launch at Chicken Shop, do a downwinder to Largs and drop your kite on the beach north of the Largs SLSC. I hope it clarifies...?
  18. Hi all, The SAKSA Annual General Meeting is being held at the West Beach SLSC this year. It is set for Monday, the 5th of November at 7pm sharp. The West Beach SLSC is opening the cafe especially for us and they are doing a deal on Schnitzels plus a happy hour. The formal proceedings won't take long so everyone is welcome including families; the more the merrier. You can join up on the night and we'd encourage you to have a meal and hang around for a drink plus watch a few kiter DVDs on the wall. Check out www.saksa.com.au or give me a call on 0411 454 656 for any queries. Cheers, Chappy
  19. Still pumped about the session yesterday... I got some footage that has quite a few of your jumps! Hopefully I'll get a fair bit more of everyone over the summer and edit it into a compilation video! Thanks again for enlightening us about what Yorkes has to offer. We'll make a weekend of it next time. Cheers
  20. It looks like there may be some easterlies around this Saturday and Geoff and I are both off the leash and packing our swags. We're probably heading off to Yorkes somewhere depending on the wind. Anyone keen for a road trip to explore? Likely departure is first thing Saturday and return early arvo Sunday.
  21. Awesome turn out today, nice work. Tomorrow should be even better!
  22. Actually, I think we need to be saying that with a little more enthusiasm! Linc, well done mate. Awesome suggestion; a deserving winner. Enjoy the prize package. Geoff will get it to you in the very near future. Nice one.
  23. As the wind looks completely crap this Sunday, we're going to postpone this month's Downwinder. Next month, we'll be looking to have the downwinder on Saturday the 13th (back up is Sunday 14th). Everyone is welcome; there'll be a bbq and drinks afterwards and it'll be a good time to join/renew your SAKSA membership and insurance for the 07/08 year. Keep an eye on the SAKSA website for details. Cheers, Chappy
  24. Thanks Sinbad. I tried adding the poll function and kept stuffing it up. Much easier this way...
  25. Hi all, We've now got a postal address for you to send stuff to. It's now: SAKSA PO Box 588 Torrensville SA 5031 Any other queries, email me on will@saksa.com.au Cheers, Chappy
