captain caveman Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 after memorising the little flash player clip and saying "redirect" over and over in my head i decided to give it a go ..... most fun ive had in ages there was rather alot of slightly camp hopping and skipping when i didnt have the kite quite in the right place or the wind dropped etc but i got a few good jumps ..... maybe a foot or two off the ground and a few meters travelled ...... a good first effort i thought anyway ......... absolutely knackerd though , all across my back and my legs are aching like mad but i cant wait to get out there and get it sussed . i did find the 3.5 rage maybe not the best kite to do it with as the power seemed to fade when i was redirecting back up into the window to get the lift ??!!..... maybe just down to techiche ?? bloody good fun though Quote
crut Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 It'll be the kite. Rages and bullets only provide lift in stupid winds. And they never really provide float. If you like your 3.5 rage, I can recommend a 4.9 blade as a nice kite to site with that in your quiver. Quote
The-xbox-flyer Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 yeah i am new but people seid that the rage (unless bugging i guess) is not good as a first kite because it has more pull than lift so i am getting a flexifoil bulrr "it is between a rage and a blade!!" that is what people say about the blurr but i am still new so i dont know but im geetting the blurr:D Quote
GIBBYDMG Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 If you are wanting lift my man then don't get a Blurr its principally a buggy engine that's what it is designed for take a look at the micro site and watch the very good video by Sylenz. if you want lift then the Blade is the one to get. As said in all the promo material the Blurr is a very fast low lift kite. Gibby!!! Quote
GIBBYDMG Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 And caveman as what Crut said I agree totally and when it's silly wind time they lift you fast and put you back down just as fast as my superman impression on Dunbar beach will testify too. Ouch. Gibby!!! Quote
captain caveman Posted May 10, 2008 Author Report Posted May 10, 2008 i thought it probably would be the kite ...... i'm bought mainly to learn on the board ..... defo might get a blade at sometime so i can have some fun etc ..... i dont really wanna get punished to hard though ..... ive got to work ....lol ...... would a 4.9 blade be really lifty to the point that only the fearless need apply or is controllable when used with some common sense ? Quote
lunaloco Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 i'm flying a 4.9 Blade IV for a year and a half now with several years of experience before that one. As far as jumping goes, I find the Blade very easy and forgiving as it provides a nice float that will bring you down to Mother Earth in a calm way if you redirect the kite properly. You will get a whole lot more height in comparison to the Rage. As said before, the Rage gives pull with reduced lift. As far as I understand the commercials and information on the Blurr, it is only designed as a serious fast buggy engine. If you want to use it to cruise on a landboard or for skidding, that wouldn't be to much of a problem. If you're looking for airtime, you will be greatly disappointed by it. Go for a Blade IV (fixed bridle) or even a Sabre 2 (depower) if you're looking for airtime and maybe get on a landboard later on. Hope this helped! Happy flying! Quote

If you're after nice controllable lift then nothing beats the Blade. Seems like you're getting to grips with your Rage nicely so you know what a kite does in the different parts of the wind window - so there's no reason to be scared of the Blade. Remember you can adjust the lift on the BIV with the AAA bridle system, so you can take the worst of the lift out of the kite for the first couple of times out. As you said - common sense goes a long way here:). Don't go out in silly/gusty winds the first couple of times... Quote
lunaloco Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 Don't go out in silly/gusty winds the first couple of times... True! But once you get the hang of it, those gusty winds can really take you by surprise and still leave a big grin on your face once you stick the landing ;-) Good luck! Quote
Josh1599968683 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 Lift = Blade Jump = Blade did i mention GO for a blade! hehe 4.9 good one size up is the ultimate jumping kite! but its alot of kite to handle so the 4.9 is your best alround bet m8! Happy kiting! J Quote
smickers Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 I have got a 3.5 Rage, and Im 18 stone. I fitted a AAA bridle kit(at a price of 15 quid) to mine, and it has made a HUGE difference. I was flying it in 20mph winds, and got 5-6 ft off the ground. If I went on a HUGE diet, I might have gone higher. Had a go on an Ozone Haka 5m, and that done some lifting. So I have to disagree with Crut. Had a go with a Blurr 3.5 and that was quite lifty! My avatar is me on my Rage!! Quote
Rushmore Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 I've seen people jump high with the blurr.. It's adjustable, so It can be very lifty if you want it to be! Quote
Lhotrie Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 I got 4.5m savage last week and get it out over the weekend. It has very nice lift. I use to fly beamer 3m before but want to have some more fun. In a way some people say its similar to Blade but not on all aspects but Im pretty happy. Quote
bubbawillums Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 Dipd my first pendulum today down at greatstone with a 4.9 blade... I went UP!!!!!! and then floated down about 6 seconds later... wicked!! Quote
flint666 Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 I can think of liftier kites than a blade.... but the mods will tel me off because im selling it so i wont say what it is .... Quote
Inch_speller Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Just as an alternative to the Blade theres always the Riot or Haka Quote
Cyprino Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 First proper power kite I flew was my stepdad's 4.7 Rage, it was a good laugh. First scuds were brilliant, even if I did end up with sand-filled shoes most of the time! Then my brother got a Blade III 4.9 back in september '07, i've been mainly flying that since. It's the most amusing kite i've ever flown, and never fails to put a smile on my face. Unless the wind is rubbish, then it has a habit of falling out of the sky... Nevertheless, get a proper wind and it's a fantastic kite for jumps and general amusement. The biggest wind i've flown it in was about 30mph i think, i launched, scudded about 80ft in a very short amount of time and got lofted up in the air! You do need to respect it, so to speak, because if you start getting cocky, well, it's a quick way of hurting yourself! Blades all the way! Quote
captain caveman Posted July 27, 2008 Author Report Posted July 27, 2008 Just as an alternative to the Blade theres always the Riot or Haka i found the haka was a pig when flying static .... just my opinion though Quote
Powerkitejunkie Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 Just as an alternative to the Blade theres always the Riot or Haka Try getting a 4.9 blade 4, AND an ozone riot 7m. One has the characteristics of a spitfire, and the other one feels like a jumbo jet. Quote
Nemo Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 I was trying to do pendulum jumps last weekend on my Frenzy, can't get the re-direction though. When I get into the air I just hold on and seem incapable of moving my arms! Quote
kinny Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 Another vote for a 4.9 blade (although flints mac bego is a beast of a ktie too!!) You'll be fine as long as you don't have a death wish and work up from lower wind speeds. If you buy a blade 4.9 it'll soon become the most used kite in your bag and your favourite grinning machine! Quote

When I get into the air I just hold on and seem incapable of moving my arms! 1. try redirecting as soon as you feel you get lifted 2. redirecting isn't that hard: just make sure your hands are next to each other again and above you. Simple as that Quote
Condor Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Blade III 4.9m for going up high. See photo to the left. Quote
