MarcelNBL Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Hi Guys, I have started out recently...flying my kite is no problem and I have resonable wakeboard experiance, however when I dive my kite to get out of the water and stand up, I go forward about 7 or 8m and then sink back into the water...?...I've tried to hold my kite in the power zone...I've also tried to dive/steer my kite back up again but it doesn't help...my kite keeps flying out of the power zone...is this normal for a learner or am I underpowerd? please help me if Im doing something wrong... Thanx! Quote
Dan Masochist Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Sounds like your underpowered to me or your digging in too much to start with, let the kite lift you up out the water heading downwind then get on your edge. Quote
MarcelNBL Posted May 4, 2008 Author Report Posted May 4, 2008 It feels like I loose power as soon as im on top of the water? Quote
Hentex Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Dan is SPOT on Underpowered OR not getting enough board speed by going down wind rather than edging instantly! Keep trying you'll get it... Quote
MarcelNBL Posted May 4, 2008 Author Report Posted May 4, 2008 Sounds good..any other tips to get e going? Quote
Hentex Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 jee if u wakeboard once your up you'll be killing it. Get your wake bindings and board and get out there super powered up and show your locals how it should be done! Just dive the kite aim towards the kite to get board speed and once your up gently leen into your harness and keep the kite around 11 o'clock. Then do the same the other way! Quote
npeac Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 heading downwind too much when you start you are travelling towards the kite so it has no power. once you get up try and aim the board just ahead of the leading edge of the kite. its a fine balancing act though so dont worry if you are only going a few metres. Pike Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 all good advice also, if a little underpowered conditions, when starting kite at zenith, say you want to head off to the left, take kite out to the right (around 10 or 2 o'clock) and then dive kite sharply into power zone, do all of the above re board speed, and then, well before kite reaches the bottom odf th stroke, pull kite back up but more slowly this time..don't wrench it around, and keep sining the kite but at the same time keep edging...but not too much in light wind conditions!! I know ..alot to think about in a short space of time..there is only one solution..practice! Quote
MarcelNBL Posted May 5, 2008 Author Report Posted May 5, 2008 AWESOME!thnx guys...went out this morn, got up the way you would on a wakeboard(directy after the boat) and went downwind like 20m and the started turning and edging...my goofy is awesome but i think I forgot my natural at home...haha...its tricky though!!thanks for the advice! Charlie C Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 theres 2 ways of starting: the sine wave and the L shape. The sine wave is what pike is talking about, you dive the kite hard into the power then back up and dive it again (a sort of S shape: hence the sine wave). This can generate more power, tends to work best with c kites as when the kite is turning with a bow-style kite it dosn't generate as much power. So if you are doing this then do it gently and not in hard sharp turns, as these cause the power to be very on/off. the L start is where u dive the kite almost straight towards the water and then turn it at the bottom and head it almost straight sideways the way you wanna go. This works best with bows and they generate the power in a straight line. if u get the board right when doing this you up and going without having to work your kite up and down. My advice would be to try and do the L start then move the kite a bit if you need to. Quote
