I came across this website http://www.roleezwheels.com/showcase.php whilst looking for wheels to convert my MBS to soft sand capability. Has anyone or does anyone know anything about them?

With the vast expanse of sand dunes north of Stockton a mere 15 minutes away I dream of being able to board on them - perhaps this product would help?

hrmmm :? maybe

Your problem if you bought them would then be the size of the trucks/axle. Your axle would need to be wider. Wider buggy conversion axles do exist for boards though.

Steve McCormack once told me I don't need bigger wheels on my buggy I just need a bigger kite. I can imagine though the tiny wheels on a normal ATB just bog in soft sand.

I can travel at pretty fast speeds over soft sand in my buggy, unfortunately not upwind though. I still would like to try larger tyres on my buggy and the larger ones on that web site Don look like they are just the thing. They are in the states and they are not cheap.

Back in my early buggy days I fitted oversize tyres to my plastic wheelbarrow rims. This slowed the buggy down and fitted the wheelbarrow tyres back on again. I am a lot more aggresive with the buggy now a days and would love to have a set I could use across soft sand. One application would be here at long reef. This time of year the wind runs more parrallel to the shore than across it. At the lagoon entrance, during low tide, there is enough hard sand to recoup whatever down wind slip I lose on the soft sand.

Don, I would love to roam the dunes with you some time. I have got a spare buggy, ever thought of giving the buggy a go?

Thanks for the replies.

I went out onto the dunes today at Birubi in my son's four wheel drive.

We go from the sublime to the ridiculous in this sport - there was no way we could kite because the wind was blowing 30-40 knots and the beach was flooded at 1/2 tide. For three weeks I have been waiting for a reasonable wind. Like the young bloke said, Why can't he spread it out a bit!

It rained quite heavily last night and the dunes were hard enough to drive on without letting tyres down. I reckon that had the wind been right we would have been able to use our boards just softening tyres.

I have tried buggying a couple of times. Thoroughly enjoyed it, have one on my wish list but not top of the list of priorities. However I have watched a heap of videos on buggying and I have yet to see a location that is better than the dunes here. It really is awesome. The expanse of open space is such that you can neither see the sea or the trees most of the time. Buggy racing here would be a real buzz.

As regards the wheels. I realise that modifications would have to be made. The other thing that would detract form using the Rolleez wheels is the weight. However, whilst you would lose a heap in manouverability, tricks etc. if they worked you would open up a stack of space.

Thanks for the extra infomation. I have looked at the spec sheet. Of particular note is the weight - they are heavy.

Am going out tomorrow. Wind prediction is down on today. It will be interesting to see if the sand is still hard enough to board on. Here is hoping!
