ml3575 Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Currently riding a 35degree Trampa on Revo's, however am considering switching over the Skate trucks, however need some advise! do skate work OK on 35 decks? or do i need the wedge thingy? where can i get some, which brand is the better MBS or Scrub or recommend another? also what's the drill pattern like for Skates? as originally the deck was drilled for channels, then Revo's and have concerns that any more holes might not actually fit on thedeck as i have re-shaped it..... cheers Marcus Quote
Rackham Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 You need angled risers ideally. Trampa sell them for not much iirc. Skates have the same drill pattern as Matrix trucks, dunno about Scrub channels though. Quote
CeeJay Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Skates don't work too well on 35degree. The question about brands. personally I think that skates in general are weaker and i'd rather buy cheap and change them when they break rather than spending a lot to get trucks that will bend anyway. I got some Kheo trucks on mine that are the same price as Scrubs but have 12mm axles (same as channels). If you go the 10mm axle route you are going to have to shell out on bearing as well. The drill pattern for skates is different to channels. Quote
The Flyin Scotsman Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 I hate to ask, but, why? After spending money getting some revos, why would you want to effectively downgrade to skates? (unless you're one of these people going for the lightest board ever) Quote
ml3575 Posted November 2, 2007 Author Report Posted November 2, 2007 fair question, find the revo's great for cruising, but heavy for boosting (also they where 2nd hand, not major investment in the bigger picture of all the other kit) if it's not a great idea having skates on a 35' deck what nice freestyle decks are on the market at the moment? Rackham Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Skates work fine if you put the risers on. The new Scrub ones have 12mm axles too. Quote
ml3575 Posted November 2, 2007 Author Report Posted November 2, 2007 anyone want to recommend somewhere i can get the lot from? also advice on the drill patten would be great Quote
Afro1599968737 Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 drill patern is hellish... the holes will be mm apart... you might have to fill the old holes in with resin before redrilling, or you might have to shift the trucks in / out so the wheelbase changes Quote
sonicseal Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Trampa Ted will help out, just give him a bell. I've been on a 35 degree with angled risers and Scrub Skates for a while, the newer 12mm are very strong indeed and worth the extra weight for me (and the bonus of not needing those reducer bearings). Skates, Channels and Revos all use different drill patterns. Quote
Angoose Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 the revo drill pattern is very close to that of the skate, if its the been drilled for the scrubs aswell then that should be fine as they are wider than skate pattern it will also be fine if the channels were matrix trucks as the skate fit to the drill pattern.... i would opt for the scrub 12mm skate as its stronger and lighter than the mbs truck...... atm i'm riding a deck where the outer 2 bolts hangover the end of the deck and so far its holding and i imagine they will keep holding the truck, so i'm guessing that if you move the truck in or out from the crease then you should be alrite http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l42/Ginger_boarber/boards/PHTO0189.jpg Quote
kitesurfa Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 also advice on the drill patten would be great from http://community.flexifoil.com/showthread.php?t=106285 Skate Truck patern: Centre of holes lie on corners of rectangle 63.5mm x 41.0 mm with the longest measurement along axis of board. how does the dimensions differ ? What is the Revo pattern ? What is the Channel Truck Pattern ? Quote
