Bigal Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Hi, I can fly power kites and landboard but I want to learn to kitesurf. I am based in Glasgow, does anyone know of a kiteschool nearby?? I asked in Extreme Zone down in Troon but their instructor has left. Should I just get some kit and go it alone or are lessons essential for being out on the water? Quote
Steiner Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Would deffo advise lessons. As well as the safety stuff, learning too body drag upwind is essential. Also I spent a day trying to water start and failing, but after 10 mins instruction I was up and going on my 3rd attempt!! well worth it. Try Synergy Kite Sports, I ken they're in Aberdeen but seem to be the only folk around, and Mark and Maggie are top foilk and excellent instructors. Quote
conor Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 are windthings not in troon anymore? Quote
Ally Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 wind things closed down late last year, don't think craig is doing instruction any more either. Quote

Biff Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 You can go it alone (I did and learnt through trial and error) BUT the safety is the thing you'll miss. It's the most important part, you may never need it but if you do and you don't know it, it could cost you everything! I'm happy with how I've got on but if doing it again I'd spend at least a half day being taught safety/self rescue etc. P.S. I was in a fairly safe area and had other people around most of time.
