Hi all.

I work with kids and they are expressing an interest in kites flying. I work for a local authority sports development unit and in instruct various sports. I have been flying for a few years and have just took up the sport of kitesurfing. Is there any basic courses for basic flying (land based) that i can take and also were can I locate these. I would rather the kids get taught properly rather than just go out and fly as and if.

My aim would be to link into local community groups , secure funding as their is a lot out there to be had, purchase kit hopefully set up a local club and give these kids a chance.

With working for a local authority i need things to be right, any info would be grateful.

many thanks

I have mailed turbalance but never get any reply!

So good luck, let us know if you get any info!

I was thinking the same as you.

I too work for a local authority and kites would be a great way to engage the local kids.

I sent Turbulence an email about 3 months ago and got told that they were reviewing the instructors course and when it was ready they would email me back. But i am still waiting, i guess it is taking a bit of time?

But keep me updated if you don't mind!

If Adam & Lukas at Turbulence can't run one, then Alex at Hangtime might be worth a try...

Always best to phone up kiteshops rather than e-mail as the good ones are usually busy kiting..;)

Turbulence 08456 589656

Hangtime 01253 870 000

(...also AOSPKC can probly help out with basic flying instruction if you need more instructors)

Thats about 10 or more people who visit the Ho! Regular that have these qualifications......

....shame none of us can use um' on the Ho! as the rights to lessons have been bought off the council by someone

(We can only teach our club memebrs for free)

I dont teach anymore as it cost over £100 a year to get the instructors insurance, and with no way to make it back, i havnt bothered!

the guys from turbulance are comming down here soon, cant wait to do the powerkite and then landboard courses

similar situation @ Ainsdale until recently, but patient negotiations etc. have improved the situation somewhat...paid lessons still have to go through the licensee, but they need the instructors so there's been a bit of give & take

Hi All

Thanks for the info supplied but im still unable to locate a course surely somebody somewere must know something.

We all talk alot about safety and our main aim to preserve this sport is to teach others the safety surely instructors courses should be more widely available.

Please any info would be grateful.

I'm surprised at this, what did Adam or Alex say when you spoke to them? (You can PM or e-mail me if you want to be discreet)

Normally you do have to wait for enough numbers to run a full course - the usual minimum is at least 6 people tho they prefer about 12 to make it cost effective.

to be general they are coming to "Wiltshire" ....

"we" as in the shop are trying to procure Adam for an extra stay so that we can take the course to help out proper with the shop...

Not sure if or when that is though.. :o

Get in touch with Alex @ Hangtime (again, if you already did) as there has been a bit of reorganisation within the BPKA re; training etc.

IMO Existing instructors should also be getting involved in the training of new instructors as a way of keeping up with the latest safety advice etc. and to keep their instructor qualification 'current'.
