Hey up,

Are you after snowkiting in mountains or just generally on the flat, like for freestyle?!

The east coast is flat eh, and there's a whole gang of riders who cross over to the white stuff in winter... Mark Groshen, Mike Dinsmore and Jim Everding are the main men. I can forward contact details for these guys if you wish?

Then you have the Canadian Ozone importers based in Banff, Alberta. You can search on the net and pick up their details easy enough.

You then have the big kite shop in downtown Vancouver (I forget it's name), that am sure can give you more info about the possibilities in the surrounding area.. Whistler has a bowl they use for snowkiting but when I was there in 2003 there was no wind.

There's also a guy from the West Coast that's pretty big in the kite scene over there, his name is Luke Stanek.

If you search on here for Canada, there was also a great movie posted some time ago from the BC kiters... am pretty positive they'll know the crack with winter locations too.

Hope this all helps. Canada is special, I hope you love it as much as I do.

Go big,

Dee :)

wow, thanks for the response, im really looking forward to it, got some snow blades, and im pretty good on em so im hopeing for some fun, the mountains maybe a bit to much for my first attempt, gonna check out the whistler bowl though, there is a good chance that's where we'll be heading.

i'll get back to you on contacts when ive got my researching head on.

thanks again

Pas de problemo dude.

If you're going on blades, you may well wanna look at the East Coast instead... the Great Lakes freeze over and they have some awesome ice fun ;)

Anyways, PM me if I can be of any further help.

Happy trip-planning.

Canada rocks :)

PS One thing to remember is that when it's snowy up in Whistler, it's wet-as in Vancouver... I kinda didn't get my head round this before I went, and spent a very wet January in Vancouver... whereas the East coast is miles colder and so just gets huge amounts of snow, without the wet manky rain...

where are you going?

I grew up in vancouver then lived in nova scotia for a bit and then ontario (was in the Cdn army for 5-yrs). Went to Uni and worked in Alberta (mostly calgary). Been in UK since '96. Skied & Polesurfer (albeit rather badly) all over N america.

Mueller windsports in mostly hang gliding and paragliding, I used to hang glide there in cochrane. Sadly Willie and his son have both passed away in seperate paragliding accidents, amazing sportsmen both of them. Not sure if the business is still there or who is running it.

Will be heading back to Calgary in another few years.

Hi, I'm from regina, saskatchewan. Just started kite skiing last winter, it's mostly flat here, but there is always wind. If your interested in Saskatchewan get in touch with John from Escape in saskatoon (http://escapesports.ca/), they sell flysurfer and PL. For regina search yahoo groups for the regina kiteboarders. I would definetly bring some long skis to go with your blades. I tried learning on ski blades and turning and control was so easy, but they are much slower and harder to get upwind with. Plus, if you get a lot of fresh snow forget about the blades(unless your on a lake and it's blowing across and parts stay clear). I'm actually using some old school 180 cm skis now, but I might get the blades out this winter if I can find some hard packed snow, they'd be great for freestyle. I go mostly on farmers fields and it's good for learning because you get nice clean wind, but you can also find some nice little hills to jump off of. I'm also hoping to do some creak jumping this winter, think I've found some potenially awesome spots. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.
