Where can I kitesurf in Penang / Malaysia

hey, I've not heard of any kiting off Penang, but they do have a kite school at Balok Beach in Kuantan (not a million miles away). I haven't kited there myself, but I've heard it's good during the North East Monsoon - March will be the very end of that, so there might not be a lot of wind. I know there is very rarely wind through the summer months. Penang is close to Thailand, and it's very easy fly or take the train North. There are spots to check out at Hua Hin and Koh Samui. I had a great time in Hua Hin in February, although the wind wasn't hugely reliable.

hope that helps, and if not just enjoy the food in Penang!

Hey up,

If you nip over onto Kiteboarder and post on the Cleethorpes thread ( http://www.kiteboarder.co.uk/kitesurfing/viewtopic.php?t=26 ) there's a guy who's been out there for a while this year. Goes by the name of Pieman if I remember rightly...

Am sure he'll be more than helpful, he's already helped a few people with their queries.

Go big. :)

Hi Mark, Penang is in the west coast of Malaysia and plenty of beaches around there check out this link http://www.caingram.info/Malaysia/penang_index.htm and if you want to go to the east coast of Malaysia I recommend Cherating in Kuantan as a good place to go, plenty of decent quality guest houses around to stay and the beach is superb. Pantai Balok in Kuantan is also a good beach.

Regarding gelorakites website link NEVER NEVER NEVER used this guy, his name is Kong and he is a fraudster. To get to east coast of Malaysia from Penang you can take a coach to Kuantan and from Kuantan take a local bus to Cherating, to take a flight you need to fly to Kuala Lumpur and from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan. Or you can book a taxi direct to Cherating but negotiate with the driver for price and make sure he is not taking any other passengers if you have booked the whole taxi.

I don't really know the wind condition at that time but recommend you take with you a BIG kite (17 +mtr) and one small 13mtr, if you got flexi Blade 10mtr take it with you.

All the best.:)

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your message! Penang and the surrounding region offer some good spots for kitesurfing. While Penang itself isn’t famous for kiteboarding, you might want to consider a short trip to Cherating on the east coast of Malaysia, which is well-known for reliable winds and great conditions, especially from November to March.

Alternatively, Langkawi, not far from Penang, can also offer some decent kite spots. If you’re open to a short flight, places like Phuket or Hua Hin in Thailand are popular kiteboarding destinations with good facilities.

If you’re organizing your trip logistics or accommodations by area, this postal code lookup site can be very helpful for pinpointing locations and planning your travels smoothly.

I hope this helps and that you have an amazing time at the wedding and on the water!

Best regards,
